So today I came across a motor identical to the one on my boat. It's a 98 Johnson 25 hp. It needs a head gasket installed and I have one on my work bench. It's a screaming deal price wise for the motor. The boat is a 1648 Lowe roughneck. All welded and a semi V bottom. Rated for 50hp.

My brother and I setup a bow 10 years ago with a standard reel and we lost a ton of arrows. I now have an AMS on my new setup.

I am happy to hear that you are aware of the potential for corrosion issues. I know that I for one am a fan of a major inspection of a boat hull annually. It helps to catch issues like broken welds, leaking rivets, pin holes, corrosion, and wiring trouble. Your build is looking good. I will be...
I hate to be the bearer of bad news. But, treated lumber and aluminum don't mix. They react when in contact and cause aluminum to corrode. You should change them out for regular lumber. Hopefully you can remove the carpet you installed and put it on some new wood.

Can you use the savings and add the parts to your motor to charge a battery. I know on my dad's 25 hp Johnson (98) it's easy to convert between manual and electric start and I certainly believe that you can make a manual start motor charge a battery.
