Lowe 16 transom replacement or renewal

Your boat looks identical to my 1974 Sears 16ft boat. It was made by Lowe. I was considering replacing my transom wood, but it will require some serious planning, and possibly some metal bending or removal.

    Paint Stripper ?

Good progress, and thanks for posting your work. I've been thinking about stripping and repainting my 16ft 1974 Sears aluminum boat. It has at least 4 coats of different colored paint, and it's peeling the different layers at various places. I would never consider painting over the existing...

    2004 Alumacraft Lunker

Most bow mounted trolling motors are mounted on an angle, like a typical bass boat setup. That's also how I mounted a Minn Kota Terrova on my 1974 Sears Semi-V row boat. When mounting a trolling motor on an angle, just be sure that it won't hit the dock due to too much of the motor hanging over...

Who knows something about planer boards?

Interesting concept for the DIY planer boards. I recommend the Big Jon Side-Liner In-line planer boards. They are simple to use, reversible (right or left) and inexpensive at $23.99 each. They were made by Wille many years ago, and now made by Big Jon. I am still using an old set of Wille...

What am I ?? do you know ???

Oldboat, maybe he didn't get the last set of photos you sent him. Either one of you can probably contact the local newspapers or local historical society and garner some interest and feedback from the public. Someone out there has to have some information on that boat or that era in the Detroit PD.

    My 1974 Sears 16ft Aluminum Semi-Vee

Very nice boat Chad! I wish mine was bare aluminum. It would look better than the 4 paint colors that are showing thru on mine. One day I might paint it, if I can get it done for the right price or do it myself. These Sears boats are really solid, or at least mine it. It's the only Sears boat I...

    another boat ID ??

Oldboat, sounds like a real nice place on Sugar Island. I agree your boat has a rescue/patrol boat look as well. Either way, you got a real nice boat that will outlast all of us on this forum. Keep us posted on your progress with this project boat.

What am I ?? do you know ???

It's great that you have been in contact with that retired police officer. I'll bet that you really got his attention with your boat. It'll be interesting to see what info he can dig up on it.

    another boat ID ??

Funny you mention that the boat was in Maine before going to Ohio... my first thought when I saw it was that it looked like a lobster boat. It looks like it would be a great boat from the Great Lakes. It appears to be a purpose-built boat, designed for a specific purpose.

    Fish Whacker picture request

I'll have to take a picture of the two types that I have. One is aluminum and the other is wood. Both look like mini baseball bats, and both are equally effective. I use mine on salmon and trout, some weighing over 20 pounds. I can't remember where I got them, but it might've been Bass Pro or...
