    Subfloor question

The ACM is stiff, but what happens when it gets in the sun on a hot summer day? That would be my concern. Maybe buy a sheet and see how it is when it's 95 degrees. Please pass it on if it stays stiff and works well OR if it doesn't. I've seen that stuff buckled before, but not sure if...

Lithium battery - worth the expense?

I have the Hulkman 8.5 jump box, and it's excellent. I love that it can be charged with a USB cable while driving or at home. I've had it for maybe 3 years, and it's been outstanding, and starts everything. Here is a link...

Lithium battery - worth the expense?

Agreed! Unfortunately, I had no cables in that boat. Soon, I'm putting a 2nd battery and switch in, so it won't be an issue. In the meantime, my lithium jump box goes with me on all trips.

Post your results here, too, since so many are already following. I hope they test out A+

    1996 Starcraft Fishmaster 140 Restoration/Rebuild

6061 is crazy-strong material, but needs a lot of heat to anneal, as you found out. I've never heard of it corroding other aluminum, though. What did the metal shop tell you about that? I would ask, if you haven't.

Yes, that's a deal for $150, in my opinion. Puts you way ahead, if they can turn it around quickly.

    Trailer wheels worth upsizing?

I've faced the same thing, and have gone both ways. One trailer, it worked well, but the boat weight had it maxxed out according to spec. I went from a 12" to a 13" D-rated tire, and it was a good move. Another trailer, same thing, but the weight wasn't an issue. Left it alone, and the...

need some help with 93 tracker tx17 (buck rivets)

Agree on the 5200. Make sure to wipe the excess immediately after installation, as it's hard to remove later.

    Subfloor question

If you have your mind set, then I hope you enjoy the project and it works well for you. As many others state, ACM would not be my choice, for the reasons already mentioned. Do you have access to straight aluminum sheet, without the plastic center? If so, many have made aluminum skeletons and...

What are they measuring in a Jon boat

I never understood the purpose of the gunwale measurement... except to make a boat sound bigger than it actually is. My first boat was a 190, but it was only 18' long. I found that really annoying. Actual length is much more useful, in my opinion.

Help with trailer and winch setup

Yeah, especially when the bow rises and the motor's skeg starts grinding concrete while they back down

Help with trailer and winch setup

Slide the winch mount up a bit, and run the strap under the roller. You want the bow eye UNDER the roller so it does not bounce and damage the boat

    Prop tweaking advice needed

Props can vary widely by performance. I would be inclined to try the 11P stainless one. My last boat, it was incredible how much better the stainless performed both in low AND high speed. It was crazy. I gained MUCH better holeshot AND higher speed, and ran right at WOT. And it didn't...

    Filling old drill holes?

I think you are talking about the JBweld Water Weld epoxy stick. That stuff works great. Very sticky, if you use it quickly, and it's strong. I've fixed a lot of things with that stuff. I keep one hanging on the pegboard in my shop, right next to the regular JBweld tubes.

    Fiberglass patch issue

I agree, it looks like years of dragging to boat to the water. You could clean and sand the area and use Water Weld epoxy putty- that stuff works great. If you have a TIG or MIG welder, you could fix it that way, or find a local who could do it for you. You could leave it alone, and it would...

    Filling old drill holes?

Well, well... I stand corrected! I have never seen it rust, probably because the epoxy encapsulates it so well, but that being said, JB Marineweld or 3M products should be better for aluminum if not using rivets and metal. Thanks for the correction, guys. I appreciate it. Sorry for...

    Help identifying a boat

Some Baltic Birch is produced as marine grade plywood. If that is what you ordered, it's good stuff. Ask your supplier directly. If you ordered it as a marine or exterior grade ply, it should be great to work with.

Boat ramp traffic way down and fewer boats on the water?

Man, I wish! Lake Anna seems to be more and more crowded every year. They actually built barricades at the state park to keep the crowds out of certain areas, like the fishing pier. It's a beautiful lake, not too huge, with lots of lodging around it. Many people come here from NJ and NY and...
