    Skeg Fix on 60hp Merc

I thought you meant one of those stainless sheet skeg guards. After checking out the Macs I think it's a really good option. As far as props go, I know stainless is better in almost every way. The one way it's bad is if you really whack an aluminum one it will fold before you bend your prop...

    Skeg Fix on 60hp Merc

The problem with welding is that the person doing it has to be good. It can be just as strong as it was if the welder is good. Personally I would try to get it welded even if it cost more. The downside is if a poor weld breaks more of your skeg will have to be cut back to get to good metal...

crimp connectors, splices and ect. tips.

Ever notice how the wires in your VHF are soldered? Also the place where repeated bending will break the wire is just behind the solder. I've never seen this happen after thousands of joints on radios, boats, cars, atvs or anything else I've soldered. Maybe that's due to other factors like...

crimp connectors, splices and ect. tips.

I solder crimp connectors because crimped connections fail more often. In fact, they suck. If you're careful you can pull the plastic barrel off, solder and push it back on. If you want, where the wire goes into the crimp connector, where the metal is split, take regular pliers and smoosh...

    Lithium Ion Batteries.

These batteries will get cheaper. Elon Musk will have his giga-factory churning them out by the millions. It will be just like computer memory. My first memory card was 12K and cost 300 bucks. Now, that would be about 2 cents worth of memory. Lead acid will become a thing of the past in just...

    20hp Johnson push-button 'start' won't crank the starter ...

All a solenoid is is a coil of wire that is an electromagnet. Juice goes in one side of the coil and comes out the other side. These are the small wires. The electromagnet moves a piece of steel into the large stud contacts which switch your starter. If you take a pair of old pliers and short...

Which kind if anchor for 14ft?

1/4" by 4' is good. It should come with shackles. Here's a for instance I found: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-4-Inch-x-4-Ft-Galvanized-Anchor-Lead-Chain-with-5-16-Inch-Shackles-for-Boats-/130590061553?hash=item1e67c633f1&vxp=mtr

Which kind if anchor for 14ft?

I have a 16' and a 5 pound Danforth with chain. I drop the anchor where I want it to be and drift back to where I want the boat to be, pull the rope to set the anchor and chill. Don't throw the anchor into the water. It's ungraceful.

Minn Kota trolling motor shaft shortening

On mine I pulled the wires, wrapped tape around where I wanted to cut, chopped it in the chop box, drilled the hole, put it back together.

    Handheld GPS

Etrex 20 is a good unit. Small but batteries last a long time. It works with the free maps available at gpsfiledepot.com I have a bigger unit (Oregon?) with a couple more features but it chews batteries so I use the Etrex. I now have a Garmin 541 on the boat but I still use the Etrex all the time.

Are today's 4-strokes more powerful than the old 2-strokes?

I traded a Mec 40 twin 2 stroke for a triple cylinder 4 stroke. The top end is about the same but the 4 stroke has more torque and planes the boat faster. It's much quieter, idles slower, is much smoother running. It burns much less fuel. Less oil and unburnt fuel in the water. No question the 4...

Mine is made by Ezy Glide. It came as original equipment on the boat. It wraps the cable on a drum instead of a lever. EzyGlide.com

    Exterior plywood with resin

Have to ammend my previous post. Had the deck off to do some work and it's 3/8" not 1/2". Plenty strong.

    Common Ground For Batteries

Not sure there was a problem but I must have had some inductive leakage to the hull.
