Re: Converting 16ft starcraft holiday to open bow

I had a 16 foot closed now like the picture Johnny posted way back when. His idea is very sound. The cross beam for the steering is the only forward support across the boat from side to side. There's several wooden stringers that fan out to support the how covering. Looking forward to seeing your pr...

There an old book called Baja Catch. The writer carries his Valco all over Baja, Mexico with similar setup.

Re: Transom Height / Motor Fit question...

Read the FAQs first. This product is for long shaft motors in a short transom. Says will not work to lower motor for a short shaft

Re: Wood Glue or Epoxy? Laminating Transom Plywood

Read through the thread in my signature for some thoughts. Thumbs up on Johnny's suggestions. If I were making another, I would oversize the 2 or 3 pieces, bond them and use weights as well as screw the outer edge all around. Trim using your template and cut out the edges with screws after cured. I ...

Re: Project Boat for my son. NC

There are many threads on the Transom rebuild. I'd read a bunch before starting. I used exterior plywood and used the old Transom as a template. Good indoor project before it warms up! Enjoy.

Transom question

It would be nice knowing some details of your boat including: make and model, length and beam, max horse power motor, maximum weight limits, etc. Personally, I see no reason to make it different from the original manufacturer design. For instance, would you want extra holes drilled further down to s...

Best 14' for a 9.8 HP

I would think that your motor would work quite nicely on a 14 footer as you mention. Many set ups came with that configuration back in the mid 60"s and 70"s. Looking at a spec sheet for the boat you are considering will tell you some important information. For instance, here is a Sea King spec sheet...

Re: Arkansas traveler

I had an old 50's Cadillac aluminum boat back on the Columbia River in Tri-Cities WA, and tried that out once. I had trouble getting the plug back in properly and took on quite a bit of water. Don't recommend trying it out too far from shore. I'll never forget that day Sent from my SM-G920V using Ta...
