Thanks man, to be honest, with the work so far, paint strippers, power tools, enamel paint, etc, he hasn’t gotten out to help much lately.
Final assembly will be different story. I’d like him to see and help it come together then.

I also installed a 1” Moeller drain tube in the transom. It’s supposed to make a metal to metal seal but I used some 5200 as I assembled/installed, just to ensure no leaks. 92D3E860-9045-42F4-BF57-3F7251C890B0.jpeg I also built the bunks and treated it with 3 coats of Old Timer’s formula. I may fini...

I primed all the pieces that day after they had dried, used Rustoleum oil-based metal primer. 92A2B0BB-C972-42CC-9085-FD695424B5B0.jpeg The next day, sanded the parts with a 600 grit sponge, wiped it all down with acetone and applied Valspar Metal Armor paint, tinted to a light sea foam green. I’m u...

Made some progress on the trailer. After complete disassembly, I wire-wheeled all the surfaces, treated with Ospho and let it set 24 hours. Then I sprayed with Ospho again to soften the the coating and rinsed it to bare metal with water. The metal was still solid but had surface rust everywhere. I m...

Thanks for chiming in. I did decide on the plywood, went with the oak, glued and screwed two pieces of 1/2” together with titebond III. Found a stack at Lowes, both 5 ply and 7 ply. Grabbed a piece of the 7 ply off the bottom of the stack. I’ve mixed up some old timers formula and will seal it with ...

I changed the deck plan and will have a false floor up to the casting deck now, instead of the mid deck like I'd sketched earlier. The mid deck would have elevated the cooler/grab bar/seat too high, needed to be floor level. Here are a few screen grabs of the design work in Sketchup. It's accurate a...

1950's Lone Star Corsair project

Great day today. Time for an update. I sealed the gunnel/floor seam with 5200 Monday. Also rebucked 5 bottom chine rivets. Gave it a week to cure. I’ve also been doing some design work in Sketchup. Today I took the boat, my son and 10 sandbags(all weighed between 55-65 pounds) to the basin. I loaded...

Anyone using Valspar Anti-Rust Armor paint?

I found this at Lowe’s today, it’s an oil based enamel that is tintable. I was there to check out the Rustoleum Topside marine paint(oil based enamel), but it’s not tintable. The staff recommended the Valspar as an alternative. Looking to hear from someone who has experience with either of these pai...

Here's a sketch of the decking plan. False floor from transom forward 77". There will an 18x18 sump under the stern bench, the port/stbd seats extend out to 36" from transom, so approx 40" of clear floor before the step up to the mid deck. Mid deck will be approx 50" in length towards bow and set at...

Did some rough mock-up after I mowed the yard. I cut the bow bench in half, will use it for port and starboard seats on the stern. Took the stern bench and placed it closer to the transom, the bow bench pieces would butt up to it and hinge from it. They would be parallel to the gunnels when I finish...

I’m still not sure on the oak plywood. Homedepot is $19.98 for a 24x48x1/2”, interior, grade B. Lowe’s is grade c-2. Not even sure if the grading is apples to apples or if they are specific for the manufacturer. Neither mentions any parameters for voids. I would seal either before using. The Lowe’s ...
