ALUMA-JET- Duracraft 1648 SV Jetboat Conversion

PSG - You should patent that!

Reminds me of the gates at car rental lots.

Must be nice having open water - we are still frozen solid up in the nortwoods.

Silicone

Thanks for the pict of the 5200 corrosion! Was unaware of that.

I know that 3M recommends a primer for 5200 over alum, but it is ridiculous expensive.

What would be a good primer to use? Self etching ok? Then maybe some car paint on top of that? (I have these already)

Holes in aluminum boat!!

I would rough the base metal with 80 grit sandpaper, liberally apply 3M5200, then rivet the patch on. Make patch significantly larger than the hole. I used pop rivets for similar repair. I pushed the rivet flange back (with socket) & applied the sealant to the shank so that the rivet would be well s...

Silicone

Locktite S30 roofing sealant - is a lower grade polyurethane sealant, distant relative to 3M5200. I use it, but not on mission critical areas. I think it would be fine to keep water out of transom bolt holes. You can get it at most hardware stores. I would avoid silicone seal, it dries out over time.

How do i remove unwanted paint from hull.

Might be easier to just sand it down to bare metal & start over. Use self etching primer. They sell jon boat green paint at wally's.

Aluminum floor thickness reccomendations

Doesn't the floor sheet tie the tops of the joists together? Maybe just tie the ends of the floor to something solid.

Any foam going under the floor? That can take some spring out of it too.

Advice on 4 vs 2 stroke maintenance costs

How about fuel economy? Are they the same? Gas won't be under $2 for long.

first of many questions

Electronics is pretty robust these days. Don't short it or hook battery up backwards & it won't be a problem.

If it does act up in a few years, then that is what dealers are for.

Tying Off To Piling

But.....it you want to go see something REALLY funny . . .watch the shenanigans of people putting boats in the water or taking them out!Sorry to hijack the thread but watching "Credit Card Captains" and their boats can be very entertaining at times and the knots on pilings reminded me of it. Sorry ...

Cutting or bending aluminum sheet

I need to cut some 1/16 in alum sheet. I think I will sandwich it between some scrap pl wood & use my sawzall with 18 TPI blade. I'm hoping the wood will keep the sheet from distorting.

Stomp grate question

What if the grate was concave? It would provide more open surface area.

Just a wild thought, I know it's not practical . . . -10 F here, not going outside all day, onset of cabin fever!
