Typical morning ....NYTimes headlines; Google News; Fox News; ( I like to read both sides) ...Smithsonian; and two or three additio...

Why do they drop a ball???

Well, I am so old that our telephone numbers not only didn't have area codes...we didn't have the first two digits. My wife's telephone number, when we started dating, was UNDERHILL 7- XXXX No doubt that UN 7 stood for 867,..... but UN-derhill 7 was easier to understand and remember. I also remember...

Why do they drop a ball???

....popcorn..... would translate (in numbers ) to 767 2676. I put my area code in (281) plus 767-2676 and in the Houston, TX area, and I got a local Air Conditioning service.

I'll bet that before area codes (Sheesh, you are old!) 767-2676 was reserved for TIME on the old switchboard.

Why do they drop a ball???

Shucks, just about every day I try to learn something new. I have to keep the old brain still trying to work like it used to. Today, I learned why a Ball is dropped at midnight and what is the historical background of Ball dropping. Who knew???? https://stardate.org/radio/program/2019-12-30?te=1&nl=...

Electric Beaver (airplane, that is)

One of the articles mentions a 100-mile range on this first electric beaver. However, a 600-mile range is expected on another electric plane. See the additional article below. https://fortune.com/2019/12/10/electric-powered-commercial-airplane-makes-history/ Batteries are clearly the limiting factor...

How to build a Leaf blower hovercraft.

I wonder how many fish I could scare away with a DIY hovercraft?

Now THAT is the way they ought to teach Technology (and everything else). I'll bet the kids paid attention in that class.

Any pilots, or wanna be pilots on here?

Nice story. Interesting craft, too. I've flown on a Beaver (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Havilland_Canada_DHC-2_Beaver) a number of times. A trip or two in Canada where the pilot had me hold the yoke for a while. Neat plane for what it was designed for. As you said, once up in the air, they can ...

Any pilots, or wanna be pilots on here?

re pilot. I thought about it. I went up with my BIL, who had just finished his training. It was interesting when we took-off. It was interesting when we landed. The hour(s) in between were pretty boring. Given my advanced and aged ADD....I didn't think I'd like it too much. I can spend those dollars...
