I like tadpole's idea. Maybe you could paint the lower half black and the upper the same color as the interior of your truck. Or you could go with light gray to keep the heat down

does MIG welding aluminum produce a lot of spatter similar to flux core welding on mild steel? how do you protect surrounding areas within the boat?

I have never done this but have read a lot on the topic and it seems that most people prefer to use epoxy resin, like MAS, over varnish. The main reason is longevity. Varnish needs to be reapplied depending on climate where as epoxy is permanent. Hope this helps.

yes those will work however when installing rivets like these with a hand-held rivet gun it's almost impossible to get them to seal completely. You could try some marine-grade sealant around the rivet head before fastening

can you take the boat to a welding shop and have them filled?
