    1967 6 HP Johnson smoking

I had a few of the Johnson 6hp motors that acted the same way. Would not idle below the shift position. The head gasket was the problem. It was pulling in just enough water to kill the motor. You could see water drops on the spark plugs.

    fuse and wiring question

I have a Lowe 1448 with side console steering. I have a deep cycle battery in the front for my trolling motor and front depth finder. I have my starting battery in the rear that is connected to distribution posts by way of a main disconnect switch. I want to run wiring from the distribution...

Update: Johnson 15hp power pack coil question

I recently had a power pack fail on my 25 hp. It was firing the coils at the wrong time. It ran rough and had a bad miss when accelerating. I performed the tests in the service manual and it kept pointing to a power pack problem. I also replaced the charge coil while I had it apart. It...

89 Evinrude 30 hp not moving water

Maybe a sticking thermostat. When you remove and reinstall the gearcase, make sure the water tube grommets are intact and also that the tube is installed properly. Also, make sure the earmuffs fit tight or it won't pick up the water. Sometimes I can't get mine to pick up water on the muffs...

    Painting after sand blasting

If you are concerned about the paint sticking to the blasted metal, yes it will work fine. It's probably a rougher surface than you'd get by sanding.

    Bow mounted trolling motor

Do you have the 40" or 48" floor? It's probably a 1440m or 1448m. I have the 1448m with the tall transom. I like it, very well made.

Wire size for cranking battery and other wireing help.

Your factory battery cables should be 5 to 6 feet long and are a #6 cable. If I was moving the battery farther than that, I would use at least a #4.

    Typical Motor Temperature??

I have a temp gauge on my 25 Evinrude and it ran about 155 degrees when I was on a lake with a 10 mph limit. I was running at 2500 to 2800 rpm. When I can plane out and run high rpm, it cools down to about 145 degrees. The motor has a 143 degree thermostat. I asked the same question you did...

    Bow mounted trolling motor

AK Mcallum sells Lowe trolling motor mounts that fit to the left side of the boat. I'm not sure what brand your boat is, but they are designed to be semi-universal. I have one. It works nice.

need help please with 25 johnson

Carb probably needs cleaned and rebuilt. Jets are probably plugged and running the motor lean. The cardboard is basically choking off the air to the point that it runs on the little fuel getting to the motor.

    help with Evinrude 25 please

Thanks for the help. My fuel tank is new, it has only had 91 octane ethanol-free fuel in it. I use lucas 2 stroke oil at 50:1. I may take the advice and replace the hoses and plug wires.

    help with Evinrude 25 please

I have a 1989 Evinrude 25 hp long shaft with remote controls. I was wondering if anyone with one of these can confirm if these conditions are normal. First, the motor idles nice, revs quickly, great acceleration, and has great top end power. When not on a plane at low rpm, around 2500 or...

    slow/limp mode

If it's overheating and the SLOW function is working, the rpm will only reach 2500 and will be erratic, kind of like when you hit the rev limiter. At least that's how my '89 25 acted with a bad thermostat.

    Transom Saver?

I use a transom saver. They are relatively inexpensive, so why not use one? The force on the transom when running is pretty much a constant pressure. When hauling, it is a back and forth bouncing motion that can fatigue the metal. Just my opinion.

    Need Help: 1984 Johnson

I wouldn't think the handle should ever turn 360 degrees. Maybe the throttle grip is broken inside.
