Possible to replace small sections of a transom?

Here's a pic to show location. There are 3 spots. First is far left on the corner. I plan to just have that re-welded, as from what I can tell there's not actually wood underneath that part. Next is just above the bottom white spot (bolt head I sealed). I have it covered with jb weld for now...

Possible to replace small sections of a transom?

Thanks for the ideas so far. Replacing the wood isnt as easy as it sounds being that its on a 1860 and the wood is completely welded in. Im trying to avoid that at the moment.

Possible to replace small sections of a transom?

I have an issue that I hope I can get some advice from you all on. Im fairly certain that my transom wood is wet in a few small areas where there are thru-bolts going through. I have noticed over the course of a couple months 3 spots that started out as small pinholes. I drilled out the...

    How bad is this corrosion?

I would honestly probably take it somewhere else anyways. Wasnt a big fan of the place I went before. I think Ill put a few more trips on it and keep an eye out and see. Im REALLY hoping its something like this and not the G3 transom corrosion issue.

    How bad is this corrosion?

That sounds like its it! Alka selzter. So if the guy that welded it used the wrong wire should I take it in and have it re welded?

    How bad is this corrosion?

So the story goes on with this boat. I noticed a corroded spot on the weld on the back left corner of the transom. I took it in and had a welder grind the corrosion off and re weld the spot. All was well for a couple trips then I noticed the spot was back. I opened the hole up a bit with a small...

    How bad is this corrosion?

Thanks for the advice. I took a bit of scotch brite to the area and most of the corrosion and paint comes off. I think im going to strip the whole area, apply a zinc chromate primer and paint. Any faults seen in that plan?

    How bad is this corrosion?

Pulled the gas tank deck off the back of my boat because I noticed a little corrosion in the area and I wanted to take care of it. The picture shows what I found underneath. Im not sure how far up it goes but I don't think its past the center console because there's a hole in the floor there...

    You Dirty Winch!

Could always zip tie it to there. Unless you expect to regularly run the strap all the way out, overlapping layers will hold it in place.

    Bunk slicks with larger boats?

Gotcha. Thanks for the advice. I think ill just go with regular 4x8s and seal them.

    Bunk slicks with larger boats?

So if not treated then what do you recommend? Can it really leach that much, even through cutting board material?

    High horse power john boats

I have the 1860 cc with a 75hp yamaha 4 stroke. With myself and fishing gear on the right day my GPS says 36 mph. It has a stainless prop but im not sure of the pitch as it came with the boat when I bought it used. Its a bumpy ride in the chop but manageable. It is very stern heavy and if you...

    Bunk slicks with larger boats?

I want to replace my carpeted bunks with new treated wood and use properly sized cutting boats on top of that for my bunks. My primary reason being that I fish salt or brackish water 99% of the time and im worried about corrosion. My boat is a 18ft g3 and my biggest worry is that the weight of...

Weak floor in 1860 G3 and a picture request

Bassboy is right on the money with the design of my floor and that its the diamondplate material. I will try to post pics when I get back in town. If I'm going to do this, ill probably move the console as far forward as I can as well. Any negatives on that? I sure would appreciate the extra room...

Weak floor in 1860 G3 and a picture request

Thanks, but there the floor is all aluminum, appearing to be 2 layers. If there is any wood, its not anywhere I can find, and Ive replaced floor rivets from front to back.

Weak floor in 1860 G3 and a picture request

So I replaced most of the rivets around the console area. They weren't corroded but some were loose. Problem is that did not fix the problem. When I was taking the old rivets out I looked at the layers and the main floor is layered on top of a thinner floor. I didn't see where either layer was...

Weak floor in 1860 G3 and a picture request

Its seen some rough water by me, but the floor has been like that since Ive owned it. The console itself is screwed tight to the floor, but the floor underneath the console moves. I think Ill try finding the ribs and adding a few more pop rivets around there. I played with some rivets yesterday...

Weak floor in 1860 G3 and a picture request

I bought a 2004 G3 1860 CC last summer. While I like the boat, there are several things that I dont like about it. One of them being the floor. When walking around, the floor flexes. Im not a big guy either. Some of the pop rivets that hold the floor in seem loose, and when I let fresh water...

how rough of water in a 18ft mod v?

Definitely not something I plan on doing often. 90% of the time I will be in calm waters. Its the 10% where I need to get back in the chop that just picked up. If the boat can handle it, i'm confident I can.
