    trailer winch question

I have the 600 lb. winch (with strap, not cable) from Northern Tool, and it's a great winch.

    Anyone spray their trailer?

Thanks for the information and help guys. I think I am going to go with: SPI 2-part Epoxy Primer Valspar Tractor & Implement Enamel paint + Enamel hardener I think I'll go with black, because the other colors (Ford Blue, Kubota Orange, John Deere Green, Glossy White, etc.) would just look...

    Anyone spray their trailer?

The boat trailer is finally "built," but now I need to paint it. I will be priming it with SPI epoxy primer, but I'm not sure what to paint with over the top. I don't really want to spend more than ~$40 on paint, but I want something that will be durable. I thought about some "Rustoleum...

Bow eye / winch hook question.

Actually it's a maillon :) I ended up finding one in the trailer department at Northern tool (similar to that picture), and put that on last night. Worked well, and with the added benefit that it straightens the strap (previously it was turned 90*, which I did not like). It's rated up to...

Bow eye / winch hook question.

I've got a small problem (I hope) in that, the hook on my winch is not big enough to fit around the front handle on my boat. See the picture below to see what I mean: I've contemplated a few things, but do you guys have any suggestions? I thought about putting a big carabiner or something...

Not sure what to do here...

Hey everyone, Just wanted to give an update. This worked well! Thanks for the tips. I got the bracket separated, the eye, bushings, and bolt placed in perfectly. =D>

Not sure what to do here...

Thanks guys. Just did that and torched the bends for a few minutes... hopefully that will work. I'll leave it til tomorrow or Tuesday and see if it holds. Thanks again!

Not sure what to do here...

I am building my trailer (finally) and I'm not sure how to get around this problem. On the bracket where the front leaf spring bolts into, it is deformed (Thanks to the previous owner over-tightening it). Instead of looking like |__| it looks more like /__\ (slightly exaggerated). This...

Having a hard time finding a part

Just an update, I got the bushings I needed from the Spring repair shop in Ft. Worth. Had 12 bushings in a matter of 5 minutes, and didn't set me back much. Test-fit them in the springs and everything lines up. Thanks again everyone for the tips and suggestions!

    Possible purchase

Looks good! I have the exact same boat. What's up with those seats? Are those "lazy suzans" with a seat mounted to them? That's kind of funny and awesome  What will you be using it for? That could make a difference. The only thing I really dislike about mine is that the front does...

Having a hard time finding a part

Normally I would (after this many weeks of searching) but even the bushings they have don't necessarily fit. They're off on the length and the OD is off a little, but it's one of those things where I could make it work if I had to. I did just have some luck calling an axle & spring shop in Ft...

Having a hard time finding a part

I'm trying to find a rubber flanged bushing for my leaf springs on my jon boat trailer. This is what trailerpartdepot.com offers, but I don't want to pay $10 in shipping for 8 bushings - that's ludicrous. This is nylon, not rubber, but it would do. It's not long enough, and I'd really...

    mysavioreigns' trailer project

Wow, I can't believe it's been that long since I've updated my trailer thread. [-X Well, the trailer was completely disassembled and sanded down to bare metal / factory primer. That factory primer is a real pain in the butt to remove. The rear axle was completely taken apart, and all new...

    General jon

I, too, have a General Marine, from around the same time frame! I wish I could help you, but I don't know anything about them either. Very sturdy boat, though. Never had a leak, and no rivets ever replaced. How's your transom? Mine was practically gone.

    my new boat

Looks very nice! I like how you did the sides. I wish mine was 42" wide, like that one. I think I can get away with a little bit of decking, only low in the boat, but I like how you did yours.

    mysavioreigns' trailer project

Well, today I had off work so I got a little bit more done. I had been procrastinating my organization of all these parts, so I bagged & tagged everything, and took pictures of how everything goes, before putting it all in totes. While sanding/wire-wheeling the trailer frame is alright...

    mysavioreigns' trailer project

Thanks lckstckn2smknbrls. Good suggestion on the bearings, I plan on doing that in the morning. I spent 10 minutes trying to get the dust cap off with no success, so I gave up. Later, I looked on youtube, and found out how to do it in about 3 seconds, lol.

    mysavioreigns' trailer project

So I began by disassembling everything. The fenders, brackets, bunk-holders, license plate brackets, lights, and wiring were all removed. The rollers came off, and I'm not sure if they're going to go back. The wheels have been fused to the hub by the almighty strength of 1000 men (i.e. rust)...

    mysavioreigns' trailer project

I guess since I've been here a few weeks and asked a few questions, I'd start a thread showing my trailer build. I have a 1436 old Jon Boat, that honestly I don't know much about, other than it floats and fishes well :) I got really tired of loading it into the back-end of my pickup truck...

    help sanding trailer

Well, that is a good question :) I originally just started sanding away the surface rust and just made my way down to metal. I will be shooting epoxy primer on the trailer, so I figured I'd have to go to bare metal. After some research, though, I see that's not necessarily true. It's...
