Oil base floor paint vs spar varnish for sealing transom

Have plenty of oil base floor paint, sticks well, tough, meant for use on wood. I would have to buy varnish. Suspect the paint would even last longer. Not trying be penny wise and pound foolish but is there any real advantage to using varnish instead of paint? Sailboat spars of course you have...

Source for old merc 60 6hp internal fuel lines?

Got it now. Had to file inlet elbow a little, but the main thing was that with so little clearance, the angles of all parts involved have to be "just so" or it won't work. Tried posting a photo comparing the two but network seems to be slow today.

Source for old merc 60 6hp internal fuel lines?

1965 merc 60 a 6hp twin. Part 32-34572. Oldmercs claim to have one but the end fittings are enough bigger that it won't fit. Rubs on carb at one end and shift shaft at the other. This hose is about 5.5 inches long, runs from hose adapter to fuel pump inlet, has a 90 on one end and a 45 on the...

    1986 Kerosene Yamaha

Can't speak specifically to this motor. But, it was very common to run tractors on kerosene back in the 1920s thru 1940s. Typically they have 2 fuel tanks, small one for gas, big one for kero. Start on gas, switch to kero after up to temp. They also would have a lower compression ratio, and...

1972 Evinrude 9.5, is this water pump housing bad?

See photo. Also, any tips on how to hold the lower unit in a vise to drill out the sheared off machine screw? Assuming originals were stainless-these were not...head on one was nearly gone, filed it off, then managed to shear off the stub...not enough heat, time or just bum luck. Hand impact...

Thanks all for the info. Gotem: how big is your small boat, and how do you get it to the water off the trailer?

Dumb newbie question: how big water is too big for a 14' v?

Ya the full crew would only be along on a glass smooth day and not far from shore either! Nor would I plan on being out in a storm either...but if something broke a ways out...these boats don't row real fast. Thanks for the insight. Caution and preparedness being the best way to safety. Not...

Dumb newbie question: how big water is too big for a 14' v?

Title says it all. I haven't much boating experience, mainly canoeing and other people's larger fiberglass pleasure craft. Is there such a thing as inland waters that ought not to be tried with an open 14' semi-v? Or just keep a close eye on the weather and don't go too far from shore? Finger...
