Oh man what a beautiful motor when she’s cleaned up. I posted a few more pictures to maybe help. He also says it’s tiller driven which the pictures don’t make it look that way. If it’s not how hard would it be to make that conversion.

Need some help identifying a motor I found on Craigslist and seeing if it’s worth the trouble. The guy doesn’t know year or anything or whether it even runs. He only wants 200 for it. I included a picture to see if anyone knows the year at least.

Do you have any updates on this? I’m curious as well about this.

I’m not super attached to the 18 actually. My goal is to trade up for bigger for when I do my conversion this winter (thanks to all the amazing info on this site, I’ve got the conversion bug). The parts list is kinda pricey so I may just take Weldor’s advice and sell to get bigger.

Folks, Im curious if anyone can point me in the direction of the parts I would need for an electric start for my 1973 evinrude 18hp. I was gonna trade my 73 18hp and my 84 15hp for something a little bigger with the luxury of electric start but a guy I spoke with about a 20hp said not to trade...

Well I’m honestly not able to tell. I added some seafoam to my gas mixture in an effort to clean the ol girl out so it’s got a bit extra to the exhaust. I planned on dumping that mixture and get new to look into the exhaust leak.

Do you guys think it would be fine to use that permatex high heat gasket maker stuff or should I keep look for the actual gasket. Only reason I ask is I'm having a hard time finding the gasket online.

Thanks cedarriver I planned on repainting and making her look brand new just didn't know the paint code I could use for oem look.

Oh man, thanks so much for the quick responses. I did read on here about the exhaust leak being a possible issue where would I check to look into fixing this. As far as the air inlet I lost a nut to the carb in there when taking it off so I know it's not caked full of stuff but now that I know...
