    1973 johnson carb?

That looks like a mid 80s 20hp carb. You can tell by the severe restriction on the throat of the carb in the 1st pic. Also it has a primer, not a choke, as the front panel label states. Does it run well? You may not be able to get it to run right, as the carb is meant for a larger CC...

    Link and Sync questions

Nice! I would still check out a factory manual, those download links are to clymer manual, which are very generic and apply to many motors. Nothing beats factory service for specifics to your engine, especially for something so detailed as a link n sync.

    Link and Sync questions

You should be able to do it without a timing light, depending on the manufacturer. What kind of motor is it? I highly recommend getting the *factory* service manual for whatever motor you have, they are invaluable for stuff like this and it will save you tons of money in the long run. If you...

    New Here, Motor Problems!

sounds like fuel starvation at WOT. I would double check your fuel pump rebuild and look for air leaks in the fuel line. Have you tried squeezing the bulb while it is cutting out?

I found a parts motor with electric start to add it to mine. So worth it, cost about $200.

    Baitcaster needs more motor advice

around 1964 they changed from bushing to bearings at the piston end of the rod, this made it so they could use 50:1 instead of 24:1 oil mix. If I were you, i would wait for a 50:1 motor. 24:1 can be a mess, but as far as i know, both types have a reputation for durability.

    Having problems with motor

it isn't hard to get into that year's lower unit to inspect all you need to do is drain the lower unit oil and remove the screws that hold the bottom plate in place. Draining the oil will likely tell you if you need any parts as it will have metal shavings in there if there is a lot of wear...

nice, that little plastic piece can be a pain. I had to shim mine last time i changed the impeller. Hope that fixes it.

Shifting Issues on 1985 30 horse evinrude.

I think this is just a linkage adjustment problem, don't tear into it yet. If this is the through-hub exhaust model, with the linkage attached behind the water screens in the lower unit, there is a certain way to disconnect so that the linkage stays aligned. You are supposed to turn only...

    Lights off batteries?

You can also get a small inverter and run 110v lights, I have a few work lights from Lowes with compact florescent bulbs and an inverter, lasts a long time.

Fastest you have been in your tin boat?

32mph on the GPS with my 14' alumacraft crappie jon. a bit scary for a tiller 14'er. Motor is a '85 25hp Evinrude with a carb off a 30hp. fun as hell :-)
