    New / Retread from WA.

ive spent time on the anacortes ferry to Shaw, Lopez, Orcas, Port Townsend, etc. Gorgeous to be in a large canoe paddling past Orca pods, Whirlpools, porpoises and dolphins. The San Juans are just epic.

    Marine Vinyl Install Question

i think you might have the same problem with Marideck. i have always glued, wrapped, and stapled. this time around i am gluing EVA to the wood and then gluing wrapping and stapling. Thinking nice and cushy on the feet.

    1996 Spectrum 18' Sport - Am I crazy?

i'd pass. force motors arent great and with all the missing pieces, i think i would look for a more solid boat. having said this, wander on over to tiny Boot Nation and have a gander. Tons o fun in all that stuff...only takes some skrill and a lot of time.

    Splash Well Rivet Question

good idea on the pop rivets to hold your solid rivet work in place to facilitate a flush and square start for the solid rivet. on the chisel to whack the heads: use the chisel so the bevel is down and the flat side up. you will find those head come off a bit easier and less damage to the...

    Marine Vinyl Install Question

one thing to be aware of: Marideck recommends a solvent based adhesive if vinyl is being glued to epoxied boards. The water based adhesive needs bare wood and i encapsulated my deck boards in epoxy. i don't know what is in the "old guys formula" but Marideck recommends MD-102 for gluing down...

Not crazy about Total Boat epoxy. Fish eye issue.

i think that is "unseen" contamination. Looks like someone put a can of "something" on that wood and it dripped and spread some. what temperature was this applied in and cured in? i have used gallons of Totalboat Cold Weather 2:1 epoxy with great results.

Sealing jon boat deck with epoxy

if its waterproof, why not do a 30% thin and try it on some end grain. let 2 coats of that to cure and then 2-3 coats non-thinned. if the epoxy is waterproof, it should turn the wood into soilid plastic. That's what i did but the product was made for marine use. I then glued EVA onto the sealed...

LiTime LifePO Batts - Where did you purchase?

hmmmm. i ordered 3 100ah and 1 300ah directly from LiTime. All showed up on time and in good condition. of course i did a verification with Renogy shunt and battery monitor on all of them immediately. they all passed with flying colors and the NOCO Genius 10 charged them as it should. im happy...

    Epoxy vs old timers formula

you can use a bunch of products on wood. i used TotalBoat Penetrating Epoxy and thinned 2 coats at 60/40 and then 2 coats non-thinned. My decking is literally shiny plastic now. One thing you do need to do is scuff your wood from second coat to fourth coat so the epoxy has some tooth for the...

    1992 Lund Tyee 1850 restoration

you could go with hardwood marine plywood and seal the tar out of it. i used that stuff to redo my entire deck. takes time to cure 4 coats on 6 sides of all cut boards but i was shocked at the poor condition of my decking. so 4 coats totalboat penetrating epoxy thinned for 2 coats to penetrate...

    1992 Lund Tyee 1850 restoration

dude, i feel ya. my shop is awash with aluminum, wiring, carpet, upholstery, batteries, etc. its getting a bit crazy keeping things organized and retrievable. of course, i wouldnt have it any other way. my foam looked great also. i have those aluminum sheets under the seatinginserts also. not...

    1992 Lund Tyee 1850 restoration

Regarding decking dimensions: on my Lund the center board sits "lower" than the 2 side boards. That center board is 3/4" the 2 side pieces are 1/2". It seems the entire front (consoles forward) are 3/4".

    1992 Lund Tyee 1850 restoration

Kinda cut myself off right here...anyway let's compare notes as we struggle along. I also moved 3x100ah batteries up under the fishing seat "extension" so they are only 4 feet from the Garmin force electric.. Thinking of adding at least 1 step (for storage) leading to that expanded front deck...

    1992 Lund Tyee 1850 restoration

I too have a Lund Tyee GS 1850 from 1993. The 115 2 stroke is pushing +/- 2% variance in compression at 122-124psi and a leakdown held for 20 minuYada. So I decided to do the whole boat. Coosa in transom, new hoses, fittings, floor, reframing the front into a better casting platform, NMEA2K...
