Big man here looking for a new boat

I have a 1972 model 1648 Alumacraft. It's riveted with the middle seat. It has been a great boat. I have had it about 15 years and have run the crap out of it. No leaks, no problems. I would prefer it without the middle seat, but I'm not willing to cut it out. It's been a great boat and I...

I am sinking my drain plug is leaking!!!

Maybe you should post a pic. Sounds more complicated than I would have thought. I was imagining what I woudl do to mine, but it's pretty easy to access.

    Thoughts on Welded Tins...

My work boat is a Tracker Grizzly 1756. It is a bare bones model with a tiller steer 40 hp 4 stroke. If I had the money to buy one personally I would not hesitate. It's a well built boat that would make a great flats fishing, gator hunting, flounder gigging, catfishing, limb hooking, bay...

    Tilt and trim question

How hard should it be to push my motor down when it is trimmed up? It will not stay in place when trimmed up to run shallow and I can push it down with my hand. I'm thinking it should be harder to move than this.

I am sinking my drain plug is leaking!!!

I would sand it smooth provided it wouldn't make the hole too big. I think I would try sandpaper on a dowel. You might even be able to chuck it in a drill.

    new deck supports

I would not recommend the galvanized brackets if you are going to be in salt water at all. I regularly see beach houses here where the galvanized joist straps are completely corroded away.

    lower end oil

Did you cut the end of the gear oil tube? Did you remove the paper under the nozzle? Can you push oil out of the bottle when it's not inserted in the foot? These may seem obvious, but I have done both.

    Reed's 1542 Alumacraft Swamp Sled.

my new to me grizzly tracker 1448

The velcro idea is brilliant. I also think that the velcro and waterproof adhesive would make a barrier between your ribs and the floor decking allowing the use of pressure treated plywood. Does the velcro hold securely enough for the foam under the floor deck to supply flotation or would it...

my new to me grizzly tracker 1448

You can put some type of barrier between the PT wood and the boat. If your floor lays on top of your ribs you can just put something down on top to keep them from touching. It will be easier than replacing your floor decking.

Good ole boys gat it made.

There are hundreds of those here on the Apalachicola. Some like that one, some nicer than my house. Most of them here are put in place and accessed by boat. If I had the money I would have one. It is incredibly fun to go stay on a houseboat for a night or a weekend. I bet it would be more...

What did you get for Christmas?

I got a vey nice humidor and sampler pack of cigars. I also got a couple of BPS gift cards. It was a great Christmas and I am lucky to have a great family to spend it with. We also attended a beautiful Christmas Eve service at a historic local church to remind us of the real reason for our...

    Stick Steering Idea

I have used stick steering before and it is very popular down here on the narrow and deep river boats. I have never noticed any torque and they are easy to operate. One thing to remember when you are engineering though, is that if something goes awry and the boat cuts sharply, you are...

    I feel for you northerners.

Well, I'd like to thank everyone for all the support while I was trapped in an icy hell with my inlaws. My father in law wrecked our car (sure I can get it up the ice covered driveway), I twisted my ankle on the ice, I was trapped inside for days on end with my wife's family. We made it home...

    I feel for you northerners.

I'll try any fishing at least once. Maybe we can organize a site wide fishing trip swap. I'll take someone out for trout and redfish in exchange for ice fishing.

    I feel for you northerners.

Well, it's warmed up and it looks like we might escape on time and make it back to sunny Florida. I love cold weather, but it's been pretty trying being cooped up here. I've gotten out some, bit there is not a lot to do. I appreciate all the responses, they have helped keep me entertained. I...
