You don't gear a prop to go faster, you gear it to not come apart. The tips cannot break the speed of sound. The resonance can cause them to shatter.

I would think that 1/2in long rivets would create a very long bucktail in most situations on a Jon boat. Also some times a long grip length can actually cause the rivet to "work" or "smoke" and fall out. Just a little FYI. nutt
