What LB thrust trolling motor do you reccommend?

I agreed with getting the biggest one you can afford. However, a boat that size should at minimum have a 24V TM. Any TM will push you in still water, but once the wind kicks up you will need the power. I use a 12V 55lb on my 12ft aluminum, a lot less weight than yours

Stupidest thing you ever did on the water???

I got one to add, well multiple, but this was one of the worst. I had just purchased an 18ft 1980 glastron boat (my first boat) and towed it up to Maine for vacation with my wife and kids. This was also my first time taking the boat out since the test run when purchased. The loading dock is...

    Lowe 1236 Conversion

For some reason my last pictures didn't post, but these should work. I decided on the type of pedestals to install. Due to the fact that I wanted to keep the center of gravity low and that not one of my fishing buddies is under 230lbs, I wanted something permenant and strong. I went with 7"...

1973 PolarKraft 1440 MV - The Birth of Ictalurus

Ictalurus - I reviewed your build again and had a question - The jack plate you put on your transom, did it help with the performance of the motor? I to have a short shaft mercury and it seems to me the motor still sits a little to low under the boat. I'm wondering if raising it up like that...

    2001 5HP Mercury 2-Stroke

Jellio5 - thanks for the info. I did get out on the boat again yesterday and moved the pin all the way down, it helped a little. You are correct, the 5hp just doesn't have enough power to fully plane the boat. I also ran wire to the front of the boat and moved the battery to the front. That...

Help Evaluating a Motor Price Please

Hi there, first i'll put a disclaimer that I'm no motor expert. I can give my two cents though! I just purchased a 2001 5HP Mercury 2-stroke for $450.00. The motor is in perfect working condition. Based on what I've looked at in my area, that was a really good deal. My advice is to call...

Ok, I have a question i'm hoping the experts on this website can help with.... I have a 2003 lowe 1236 rated for up to 10HP. I've been looking at motors for about a month and just purchased this 2001 5HP Mercury 2-stroke. I got a great deal and is in excellent shape... However, I took it out...

    Lowe 1236 Conversion

Ok, so I finshed installing the carpeted plywood to cover the front seat. Pictures below. I'm very happy with how it came out. Used toggle bolts and it worked great. I'm hoping to get pedestal bases for the seats within the month and will post pictures once those are installed. Also, I was...

    Lowe 1236 Conversion

Updated pictures/progress... I started working on the front bench seat. I was torn on whether to cut into the seat to take out the insulation to make a storage area or not. My main focus in starting this project has been to keep the original hull in factory condition. I've been sucessful in...

    Lowe 1236 Conversion

Great feedback on the seat. I've been told that the foam inside is simply flotation incase you flip the boat (which I don't plan to do, famous last words...). Here are some updated pictures of the completed flooring. I didn't have the rear section of the floor included on the other pictures...

    Tracker Topper 1436 Build

Boat looks great and love the design layout. I'm building a Lowe 1236 right now. My front deck was done exactly as yours, however my front storage hatch is on the top (i'm not going to use it as a standing platform, just storage and front TM mount). 2 Questions for you: 1. The pedestal...
