Adding a console to a tinny: Side or Center

I am also with the other guys. Don't do a console unless you need to. this is what I did on my 16 footer, the pictures you are interested in are on page 2: https://www.tinboats.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=19949 The setup is awesome.

Center of Gravity and other considerations...

My hull is very similar to yours. Look at this thread for some ideas: https://www.tinboats.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=19949 Stability is not an issue and the boat fishes like a champ.

Do I want to do this? Plug question.

My Crestliner has a plug on the running surface about 6" port of the keel and 6" forward of the transom. The plug screws into the aluminum of the running surface from the inside of the boat. There is a hood on the bottom of the boat, over the plug hole, that has an open end facing aft. It sticks...

Deck and Casting Platform - 16' Crestliner

Thanks novaman! I am really happy with both the grab bar and the fishfinder. Hummingbird has really got it going on right now. the screen resolution is incredible and the transom mounted transducer will hold bottom at full throttle...I had to put a through hull transducer on my big boat to even...

Deck and Casting Platform - 16' Crestliner

We left off talking about stuff on the stern so that is a good place to start. The aft casting deck runs right to the transom so there was no longer a place to hang the motor. The solution was a Bob’s Machine Shop Mini-Jack Plate: Here is the overview shot with seats in, set up for a family...

I want to move my fuel tank forward ...

Moler makes a 12 footer ready to accept the right fittings but that doesn't seem like it will fit the bill for you. I don't see any reason why you couldn't buy a double ended hose barb, a couple of high quality hose clamps (the ones with the little shim that makes sure that they stay round) and...

Deck and Casting Platform - 16' Crestliner

The bow of the boat is all set, save for a sweet recessed cleat that I need to install, so let’s look more at the stern. There is a lot of structure back there to help support the new casting deck so I wanted to take advantage of it. The only spots I had to get creative with were the spans...

Deck and Casting Platform - 16' Crestliner

At the last post this is what the boat looked like: We left off with me and everyone else thinking my skiff needed a rear casting deck. I also decided it needed a very simple electrical system to power a trolling motor and the new GPS/Fishfinder my lovely wife picked up for me as a gift last...

Your most coveted piece of boating equipment

The stuff between my ears. My wife thinks it is fairly useless...but it comes in handy when I'm floating. Don't be tempted to make a simple boat (and beautiful because it is simple) too complicated. Simplicity is the best accessory.

    Trolling Motor Current Draw

I'm waiting for a call back from one of Minn Kota's technical folks but at this point I don't think I'm going to have the info before this weekend...and I have some time to spend working on the boat...

    Trolling Motor Current Draw

Does anyone know how many amps a typical 30-40 lb. thrust trolling motor will draw running wide open? I can't find any numbers for the 36 lb Minn Kota that I intend to wire into the electrical system on my tinny.

Tinboaters ESPECIALLY custom builders. CHECK THIS OUT

I grew up in Michigan and sailed with my parents on lake Huron for about 15 years. The Great Lakes are no joke. The storms build fast and the waves get BIG in a hurry. I have had the diamond from my *** experience several times...in a really well equiped 30' sailboat. Now I play offshore of...

    FISH/DEPTH FINDER

Check out the Hummingbird 570. You should be able to find one for $200 +/- $25. It is a black and white unit but the screen is nice and big and has good resolution. The transducer is really nice and is used on some of their higher end models.

    Salt Water and Tin boats?

I've got 3 boats that I run in the salt, 2 tin and one glass. They all get a good dousing with water after each use and if I make a mess during the trip they may get a soapy bath. While it can't hurt, I think flushing the motor after use in saltwater is not necessary. I never flush my motors...

Sailing on an America's cup boat (Stars & Stripes)

That is very cool! My dad kept his nasty old sailboat in a slip on lake Huron (Near Saginaw, MI) next to a 12 meter racing boat...it was like beauty and the beast. I had the fortune to crew on the 12 meter a few times while I was still in high school and it is an experience that will be burned...

If you do not get a title for a motor

Here in Massachusetts you have to have a title for EVERYTHING...how else would they know what they can charge you use tax for... All we have to do here to get something titled is show up at the correct government office with a bill of sale and they will happily set you up with a...

    which way to go?

Crank- Man-o-man, if I was in your shoes it would be really hard for me to pass up that jon. Around me, $600 for that much boat just doesn't happen. The motor needs some love but the nice thing about those "vintage" units is they are dead simple to fix and maintain and will run forever if you...

    Flooring/Deck Thickness

1/2 inch exterior grade ply is plenty and you don't need heavy framing to make it work. You can see what I did here: https://www.tinboats.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=19949 The ribs and glass in my build add weight but they stiffen up the system so much that no framing of any kind was needed.

12 foot flatbottom jon for saltwater fishing.

The folks that have posted above me are all right. A 12 foot flat bottom will: Feel too small Pound Be OK if the conditions are right I fished a 12 foot jon up here in New England salt for a long time before I got into a bigger boat. I had the tar beat out of me trying to make way in bay...
