Need to find a drainage plug for boat

If you aren't planning to deck the boat or cover up the the drain plug, get one of the flip lock styles and run a small chain through the lever...and attach the other end to the transom. Now ya can't lose it! Best of all, if you forget the plug and launch the boat...you always know right where...

    Salvaging a small craft...

LoL, I'm amazed to see this thread still going...and I apologize for my extended absence. The long and short of it... I drug my girlfriend and brother in law up to the lake for a rescue attempt. The water was FREEZING to say the least! We started trying to "hook" the rails of the boat. At...

    Aluminum L Channel

I'd see if you have any local steel/metal suppliers or fabrication shops. I know the steel and aluminum diamondplate, channel, square tubing, etc. is much cheaper at these local places in my neck of the woods than they are lowes or home-depot...up to 1/2 as much. If you have a recycling center...

    Got another one.........

Schweeeeet!!! I bet you're feeling very pleased at the moment! Can I ask what brand paint you used, and how you applied it?

    Thoughts on this.

I'd jump on it..especially for the price. I'd guess it'd handle 350-400lbs...a typical 10x32 is spec'd for 325lbs. That'd make it comfortable for two guys on a calm lake....it'd be a great candidate for "electric only" lakes.

    Salvaging a small craft...

Sorry guys...90°F temps kept my group of volunteers from wanting to do much hiking/working! (yes, that's hot for these parts). Soon enough! And I will have pics!

    Battery and electrical move?

*Shrug* Try it and see next time you are out on the water. I doubt it'll make the bow sit too low, even with another person up front...the weight of yourself, a trolling motor, the outboard, and a few gallons of gas (8lbs per gallon, roughly) is a lot of weight. Moving the battery could be just...

    Salvaging a small craft...

Well, the more I think about the physics of this....the less confidence I have. I'm thinking you guys are probably right, and this this isn't gunna budge. Still, it's worth the trip just for the fishing and scenery....so why not give it a shot! Updates (and possible pics) to follow!

    Salvaging a small craft...

3 guys, some pulleys, and plenty of rope is all. It's not as loaded with mud/silt as the picture looks...just some leaves and pine needles on the bottom of the boat. Also, it only appears to be sunken into the silt 1-2 inches--the picture doesn't portray it well. I wouldn't think a boat of that...

    Salvaging a small craft...

Didn't say you *couldn't* title/register a smaller craft, simply that you are not legally required to. I didn't write the laws, I simply follow 'em. It can be a pain, though, when you forget to license your trailer because you never had to license your boat. :shock...

    Salvaging a small craft...

Boats in Washington State need not be titled or registered if they are under 16 feet in length and are powered by an engine of 10hp or less, and are not used in federal waters. I figured even if cracked or there was a puncture, fiberglass would be pretty easy to repair. Good point...

    Salvaging a small craft...

I'm seeking suggestions on how to salvage a small boat... A couple years ago I stumbled across a "hidden" lake far up in the hills. Logging roads pass nearby, but the lake shows very little signs of use...no trash, fire rings, no trails to the lake, etc. FWIW, it holds a small population of...

    Trailer Bearings

Definitely new bearings and races. I usually use shucks/checkers/kragen and do their "Buy online, pick up in store" option. The order is ready in an hour if the parts are in stock, and the online prices are usually cheaper than in-store. Further, you don't have to answer the million questions...

    Oars?

Yup, I always have a pair in my smokercraft. They tuck up against the sides and are out of the way 99% of the time. I usually just leave 'em in the boat year round. They don't get much use since I have a combstion engine, and electric T/M, but I have used them once or twice...and I woulda...

    Trailer Bearings

+1 on replace 'em. You won't be able to get all the rust off the bearings...so they won't last too long. They aren't too expensive, anyway! Sure doesn't look like theres much grease in there....!

    my first boat

I'd say the 3g. tank... Why? Less room for it to take up, and less weight to deal with. Cheaper to FILL... Seriously, most fuels these days are an ethanol blend. Ethanol will draw more moisture into the fuel than straight gasoline. Legally, the mix is supposed to be no more than 10%...

    New member has jonboat ?

I've been watching yard sales, boat shows, newspapers, craigslist, etc....trying to get a grasp on what's available and what I should expect to pay. Around here it's VERY difficult to find a boat under $350... Even 15+ year old, repaired/faded/cracked 8ft livingstons are selling for $300 give...
