Re painting old boat... rustoelum... questions

nice little boat. I am in Tennessee and took advantage of a warm few days to paint. The boat was originally white and paint in good condition. Not one leak in the boat either. Couple of very small dents in the hull but in great shape considering the age. I hope I don't regret the clear coat...

Re painting old boat... rustoelum... questions

I just got done painting it but haven't added a clear coat. I did find a satin finish acrylic clear coat that I plan to spray on in a little while. Here is the boat out to get some sun before work, then ill have to put it back out in the sun tomorrow morning...

Also will it help to let it dry in the sun?

Re painting old boat... rustoelum... questions

Thanks. I scrubbed it, sanded it, wiped clean a couple times with clean damp rag, put a little etching primer on the worn areas, and am now getting ready for the first coat. I can't find a flat clear coat in a rattle can. I was just gonna do gloss, since the boat has very few dents and would...

Re painting old boat... rustoelum... questions

Got some 400 sandpaper to rough up the old paint on my late '60s (I think, no hull number) McKenzie Cherokee 13 ft V hull. The old paint is adherent, no chipping or flaking, only a few small spots have been scratched or rubbed off from rocks or the trailer. The rest of the paint is solid white...

    Gears or prop slipping, advice?

I don't think the line ruined the seal, at least no oil has come out, hopefully no water has gone in either. I ran the boat on Sunday on the river, about 15-20 miles. Maybe half of that was at full speed and the rest was slowing down or dragging the boat through shallow riffles. The motor...

    Gears or prop slipping, advice?

Update - Just took off the prop. The hub looks in perfect condition but I marked it with white paint just in case. Think this might have been the problem? Some of the fishing line was melted together. Cut it all off with scissors and re-installed the prop. Do you think this could have...

    Gears or prop slipping, advice?

Thanks all for the advice. I don't think the gears are bad... a few nights ago I put it in gear and turned the prop (Forgot to pull the plug, oops) but it wasn't hard to turn the engine with the prop, so it's hard to tell that way if anything is slipping. I could hear the compression release in...

    Gears or prop slipping, advice?

all right, here is the parts list taken on my cell phone camera, hope it is clear enough. https://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/ee485/catman529/Mobile%20Uploads/imagejpeg_2-2.jpg Part 3032 is the Clutch/Pin kit. You can see the forward/reverse gears as well. Which parts in this diagram do I...

    Gears or prop slipping, advice?

I have the illustrated parts list manual for this motor. I will go and see if I can find it and look at the prop mechanism.

    Gears or prop slipping, advice?

the hub is an easier fix, right? I hope so cause if you are right then that's likely the problem. When it started acting up, I could run at 1/2 and even 3/4 throttle with no problem. Just started slipping at or near full throttle.

    Gears or prop slipping, advice?

my boat doesn't get on plane with it anyway, so I can't tell by that. I can't tell for sure, but when the engine revs and the boat slows, there might be a bit of a grinding noise but it's not that noticeable.

    Gears or prop slipping, advice?

I don't think it's coming out of gear, it sounds like the gears might be slipping.

    Gears or prop slipping, advice?

here is another quirk I found with my 5 hp Briggs air cooled motor. last week I ran about 25 miles up and down the river before it started to happen, but cruising along at full throttle the engine suddenly revved a bit more and the boat slowed. Seemed very much like the prop was slipping. So...

    Trailer light help...

Couldn't be separate fuses because the truck did not come with trailer wires. It's a '91 toyota pickup. I bought a wiring kit made just for the toyota. Plug and play... just plug it in series with your tail lights. Tail lights on the truck work so everything is hooked up right. I bought the wire...

    Trailer light help...

Well I guess that's a good place to start... lol.. Thanks for the advice. Guess I need to get a test kit. Volt meter would be more useful for other projects though. Oh I didn't know there was a trailer forum right below this one when I posted ... my mistake

longevity of 30 lb thrust minn kota pushing 12 foot tinny?

man with a good battery you should get plenty of time. Before I got my 5 horse, I would troll on speed 3 with my 34 lb trolling motor pushing a 14 x 32 flat bottom. I think I could troll that all day really. There were times throughout the day I would be running on full speed and other times I...

    Trailer light help...

I bought a Tennessee Trailer for my 14 ft jon on craigslist recently. When I hooked it up to the truck the brakes and turn signal didn't work. Figured it was cause I didn't properly ground the wiring kit to my truck. the guy told me they worked on his truck and he would show me if I wanted, but...
