    40HP Mariner(1988) cranks, won't start

I never posted a resolution to this, I know its years old, but may help somebody. Coil was replaced, same issue. Ended up being the CDI unit in the motor, when it heated up it would fail causing no ignition, and finally it failed completely. Just FYI for anyone having a similar issue with a...

    40HP Mariner(1988) cranks, won't start

I did check the kill switch. Even flipped it on/off several times with the same result, so unless it is actually a bad switch... Ill check out the links. Thanks!

    40HP Mariner(1988) cranks, won't start

So a buddy and I went fishing yesterday. Got the boat in the water, motor started right up. Went about 2 miles out to a potential fishing spot and killed the motor. Fished for awhile(no luck) and decided to move, turned the key and the engine cranked but would not start. I always make sure...

    Issues getting boat on plane

consensus seems to be 11P and 4 blades. I will give that a shot. You are probably correct on the tiny tach reading double, would make a lot more sense. As you said the engine does have a rev limiter.

    Issues getting boat on plane

That's what I wanted to know. I am not worried about top speed, I fish for fun with my wife and family, don't care how fast I get there. Just want to plane properly and not plow so much. I will drop the pitch on the prop when carrying extra people...

    Issues getting boat on plane

I know almost nothing about props. What is the advantage to a 4 blade as opposed to 3 blade? If I drop pitch to 12 or 11, will a 4 blade perform better than a 3 blade of the same pitch under the heavier load? Thanks!

    Issues getting boat on plane

Motor is a 40HP Mariner, mid 80's(model 40ELTO). It is actually made by Yamaha, I believe. I do not have a tach. My "tiny tach" shows around 6700RPM with 4 in the boat, I did not check with just myself, but I am not at all confident in the reading. WOT RPM for the motor is supposed to be...

    Issues getting boat on plane

I have a 16ft bass tracker with a 40HP and 13P prop. Trolling motor and battery in the front as well and a 15Lb anchor and anchor winch. With myself and one other in the back of the boat it jumps on plane immediately and runs around 28MPH. When I add two more people (total weight about...

Humminbird Matrix 27 with Lawrance Transducer

I was given a Humminbird Matrix 27 (appears to be a 3 pin connector) and a Lowrance HS-WSDX Wide Angle transducer(7 pin). I cant seem to find an adapter anywhere. Anyone know if this transducer will work with the Matrix, or do I need to get a new one? Thanks!

    Livewell or not?

I will give that a shot before I take it out. Thanks!

    Livewell or not?

I tried to use it for storage, but I cant seem to keep water out of it. Somehow it always ends up with an inch or two in the bottom.

    Livewell or not?

I don't fish tournaments, and I don't use minnows. Maybe I should start since I rarely catch anything :-D I mainly catch and release anyway. It would be nice to have an ice chest for water, food, etc. since when Im on the lake, Im out for a day or two. And if throwing fish on ice is better...

    Livewell or not?

Just curious how many people here actually use their livewells? I think Ive used mine once and Im contemplating replacing it with an ice chest.

Bass Tracker, first boat, first mods, and learned alot!

What type of boat do you have? My understanding is steel flex helps seal the rivets and gives a little bit of protection in case you hit something. Although to be honest, mine is a 1979 bass tracker, and even though the bottom has plenty of dents, it does not leak a drop.

Bass Tracker, first boat, first mods, and learned alot!

Lol, well, I got it July last year, so almost a year. And more time/money than I care to think about. Most of the time was spent trying one thing and then another until I was pretty sure I knew what I wanted. Only took a couple weeks to button it all down afterwords. Outside still needs...

Bass Tracker, first boat, first mods, and learned alot!

I have learned a lot since purchasing this boat in not so great condition for $1000. Motor was fine lucky for me. You guys on this forum have been very helpful, and I have learned a lot from you. So thank you very much! While there is still plenty to do, she is in much better shape and setup...

40HP Mariner Not running on one cylinder

Well, I guess the carburetor was the problem. Took it out to the lake last weekend. Hit 28MPH on GPS as opposed to the previous 8MPH... Much improved. Now on the the fuel pump as it seems to be going out.
