Maybe I missed it, but how do you know the impeller is contacting the sleeve while you're running the engine? What symptoms are you seeing? Are there marks from the impeller contacting the sleeve?

Not to hijack your post, but I have the same issue on the same motor. I have about 1/2" of play front to back at the top of the motor. Not sure if that's too much or not. I'll post some pics later today.
