I bought a 1983 15 hrspr evinrude to put on my 1436 sears gamefisher duck boat. After a test run i noticed that the transom flexed alot during ecceleration and did not seem safe. So I decided instead of selling the motor I would reinforce the transom and add a mini jacker to lift the motor up and set ti back a bit. I started by cutting a peice of 1/2 in. marine grade plywood to fit the entire length of the transom. After that I cut a peice of 3/4 in marine grade plywood to run half the length of the transom for added strength. I coated both peices with 4 coats of zinsser 123 oil based pimer/sealer. I used existing holes to bolt the wood to the transom and used 15/16in and 1/4 in bolts. I used 3/8 in bolts with homemade brackets for pressure dispersment to mount the minijacker. I sealed all bolts and edges of wood with 3m 5200 marine sealant. On the first test run the transom did not flex at all. Hope this might be of some help to anyone who might be thinking about reinforcing their transom.
