Well I finally finished setting up my new tracker 1542 and took her out on her maiden voyage to find that my motor slips out of gear. After reading a few post it seems this might be a common issue with older OMC motors. And the lover unitit gears are to blame. I found some gears listed on Ebay for a reasonable price but the numbers dont match anything In my manual. I think these motors didnt change much in the old days and i'm hoping someone can let me know if these part numbers would work on my 1973 18hp evinrude. Model #18304A Heres the part I found. 377147 OMC 0377147 JOHNSON EVINRUDE VINTAGE GEAR SET FOR 18HP OUTBOARD MOTORS Any Ideas if this would work on mine they look the same...also am I on the right track here. I just redid the seals on my gear case and did the impeller and water kit. but I didnt inspect he gears for wear as they looked ok to me not knowing what to look for.
