Looking for a reasonable fish finder. Saw this one come up on sale at Bass Pro (see link below). Has a GPS as well. I mainly fish lakes from 30'-300' deep and rivers. How's the 3.5" screen? I know a larger one would be easier to read, but price goes up pretty quickly.

Thoughts?

I use to use a screen that size in the bow, and a handheld in a ram mount at the console for GPS.

IMO, you will be fine with that screen as long as you don't try to split the screen.....If you even can.
Switch from sonar, to GPS, but not both, and you will be fine.

That is a pretty good deal IMO.

Thanks...then I saw this one!..................

This sounds like a real nice one!!

Thoughts on the two?

The Hummingbird??
. I would switch over to Humminbird today, if I had the $$$

That is a Down Imageing unit, not DI/SI.
I have yet to use the DI/SI units. So for your reading I'll give you a link.....Discussing DI/SI benefits

The two units are apples and oranges, size and capabilities wise.

SI/SS is great for finding structure. Many less passes over an area.

DI/DS provides more detail than standard 2D. Helps clarify what you see in the 2D.

2D is more effective at finding suspended fish, and fish in general. SI/SS/DI/DS, fish show as small spots (unless tight schools), that are harder to interpret.

Just saw this post
X2
I have a Humminbird 798Ci Si Combo and when I'm on the flats in 2' of water the unit is still covering 50' on either side (SI). The small screen is capable if you only view one thing at a time, not split IMO.
A great feature that Humminbird has, is in the PC software used to enter points off the charts I have. Once the point is entered,
you can click on the Google Earth Icon on the toolbar and that point is displayed. Great way to test the accuracy of your entry.
Here are two sites that are loaded with info on each model.....Jerry :)
