We need a new generator this season since we will be completing our light upgrades. We were running 500 watt halogens, but we upgraded two of them to 150 Watt High Pressure sodium fixtures. Now we are getting ready to do the last two. Our generator has enough watts, easily. However these HPS fixtures pull almost 3 amps on start-up, and will continue to do so until they are fully warmed up, which is about 10 minutes. Then they settle to around 2 I believe.

Anyone seen any good deals, or have any recommendations on a generator that puts out around 2000watts RMS and near 20 Amps? I can't afford a Honda, something around $300 would be preferred. Keep in mind that this will be on our 15 foot boat so weight is something I have to consider.

The Honda is the way to go.. i have one and love it.. check out harbor freight for a cheap one but remember you get what you pay for..
