I'd have to say the thread is on the right track:

1. Find a good hiding spot.
2. Ask for forgiveness, not permission. (Cuz that always works with women...NOT!)
3. Bribe her w/ sparkly stuff. (This does work, but cuts your boat budget...ugh!)

My 2 cents:

Dip into your "laundered" fishing gear budget. (We all have these, right? Man, I hope my wife doesn't read my posts :lol. :shock:
(If you haven't already told her the price), tell the wife it was less than it "actually" is. :---)
(If you HAVE told her the price #-o), tell her your mad haggling skills got the seller down to, um, I dunno, $500?...and you'll sell it for a profit (after you keep if for a while of course, and probably don't come close to breaking even on what you really paid).

Tell her you're going to pay for it by hiring it out as a leaf blower in the fall and if you back it up to the front door it'll keep the house cool all summer long.

Tell her all the safety and rescue crews have them and that you just want to be safe. Can't argue safety.
