Gar fishing last year

I completely forgot about this video I have of the first and only gar I caught last year on Lake Gaston.

Sweet! Were you targeting them? I see them quite often but they never bite whatever lure I have on at the time. Thought about keeping an old bowfishing rig on the boat for them and carp I run into.

Actually I wasn't. I just bought some minnows on the way down and they was a school of 6 or 7 just hanging out at the surface. I was actually just hoping to hang around on the dock just to spend the day down there. I don't get down there as much as I'd like. I lost another one that was probably double the size of that one because I somehow managed to reel in the line with it wrapping below the bail. That fish spooked, took off and snapped the line. This one was 7.2lbs, the one that snapped the line was probably in the 12 to 15lb range.
