Very nice to see a forum dedicated to the infamous jon / alum boat. I am a tinkerer by hobby, though certainly not by skill, and generally spend hours of my time reading about cool ways to modify stuff. Used to be jeeps and pickups into rock crawlers. Now my dad says, "The duck boat is taking up too much room in the garage, come and get it." So will begin my turn owning the "duck boat" In a few days I'm headed up to Everett, WA from Reno, NV (1600 miles round trip) to pick up a boat which I'm not sure how big it is, how well the trailer's doing, and whether or not the motor is running.
The "duck boat" has been in the family since before I was born (1985) My grandfather bought it new, and now it's my dads--I guess soon to be mine. It's sort-of decked and mostly carpeted. There's a center console, though I have no idea if it's factory or not. It's on it's 2nd or 3rd worn out 25hp motor and has spent countless hours island hopping in the San Juans, crabbing, fishing, and spent its last few years as a lake boat in AZ. Once it finds its way into my garage, who knows what sort of devices I'll attach to it and how it will get modified. Other boats currently in the family fleet are a 2004 North River-- it's up in British Columbia being fished hard, two pygmy kayaks my dad and I built, a 16' Dory made by Nexus Marine corp, and of course the duck boat.
Reno, NV obviously doesn't see much oceanfront property, and it's a bummer I can't even use it on Tahoe since it's a 4 stroke only lake. However, there's a few lakes and reservoirs close enough to get my fill of fishing on the weekends. World record cutthroat came out of Pyramid lake, about a 1/2 hour from me.
And so with that ramble, here I am, and will likely spend the next week digesting the forums. I'll post some pics of my rig when I go pick it up!
