I used to get a spray that you applied to your clothing to repel and kill ticks. I can't remember the name or active chemical.
I was getting it at walmart and miejer but the don't seem carry it anymore. Has it been pulled from the market?

good stuff, the best.

Thats the stuff. It's too bad if it's been pulled it works great.

I don't know if Repel has quit making it or if WM has just quit carrying it.

There are several alternatives available with the same active ingredient, permethrin.

This one is available at Bass Pro Shops if you have one near you. Of course..they want more $$$ for it! Greedy Bass Turds! #-o

I found the Sawyer brand Permethrin spray at Dick's Sporting Goods. 9oz for $7.99
Walmart carries the Repel brand of products which now has a tick spray that you can apply on your skin but only last 10 hours.

Repel, No stinkin' ticks & sawyers were 0.5% permythium.

HuntingPA.com reported that Ortho 'total kill' a yard insecticide is 2.5% and comes in a quart bottle. Getting a graduated sprayer bottle, you can dilute it 5:1 and get the same solution as the Repel, et all.

I've been doing so for two turkey seasons now w/ no problems. My total cost was around $10.00 @ Home Depot for the Ortho and the graduated sprayer bottle...so for less than two cans of Repel at Wally World, I' have enough to last for a few years...

Home chemistry I like it. How strong can you go and still be safe.

Deep Woods Off = one of the highest levels of Deet out there.....

Outdoorsman...

Bens is the highest. 95% DEET.
I have a bottle thats about 20 years old, I dont use bug spray any more. Campfire smoke, earth tone clothes, and no soda/sugar water pretty much does it. Most bugs get thier food from flowers, bright colored clothes make you look like a flower, bugs want a taste of the big flower (you), if you drink soda and sweat you smell like nectar of the flower.

You can pick up Bens just about any decent outdoors stores for about $6 per ounce. One drop behind each ear, in the elbow, and behind the each knee is all you need. Altough dress properly and ticks aren't a concern.

Since the 0.5% concentration in the commercial products was approved for sale to treat clothing & the 2.5% Ortho Product [97.5% inert stuff] was approved for treating one's yard...I think one would be prudent to stick w/ the 0.5% solution. I can tell you after a day of sitting on the ground while turkey hunting using the Repel and then the home diluted stuff, I find ONLY dead ticks...

You don't need it to be any stronger, the stuff stays effective on your clothes for two weeks even if you wash them!

DEET does not repel ticks. It is a repellent for alot of bugs but not ticks...

Ticks give you Lyme disease [and alot of other nasties] so the ONLY good tick is a dead tick...I had the bullseye rash and the antibiotic treatment once. I don't want to go thru it again.

1QT of Ortho total kill and 5QT of water will make 1.5 gallons correct?

Yup...My graduated bottle takes a few OZ and then you fill it w/ water to get the 5:1 ratio. I'm on my 2nd mix & have used it thru two turkey hunting seasons...no need to mix it all at once....
