Smack them and flail my arms around while complaing about why my bug spray isn't working. Seriously, at this point I just take the bites and complain about having to scratch them. People say those thermacells work great though, I have been meaning to get one.

I've been thinking of incense. I know smoke from a campfire works to keep them away, however Im not a big fan of an open fire on a boat. #-o
Thinking hte incense produces smoke, and its not really an open flame. Plus it doesnt smell too bad in most cases. But is it enough smoke?

Ben's 30 is the only bug dope I use, and I only use it when the skeeters are thick.

Hat w/ head net , Deep Woods Off, cuss and flail, troll with the wind, smoke cigars. I think trolling with the wind works best, them '53 Lightwins run on 16:1, bugs don't like that smoke.

Avon Skin so soft! DEET free and it works. I breathe heavy and attract bugs like no other, and this stuff works!

My wife is always ordering that AVON crap from her friends and she buys me a bottle every 3rd or 4th order.

.....And it makes your skin soooo smooth.. I used to use it,gave it up 'cause it attracted bitng flies,or was it just me. But seriously,it sure kept the mosquitoes and gnats away.

Up here in Mass, the two big things are mosquitoes, and these little black (no see ums, chiggers...or whatever they are called). That get up underneath your hat while Turkey hunting. Your trying to sit still and these things make you so violent when they bite you. :LOL2: :LOL2: :LOL2:

I brought a hat with mosquitoes netting a few years ago. Works great at keeping the naps and mosquitoes at bay.

Mostly cigarettes and bug spray. I am getting a thermacell for turkey hunting this year, I read that it works ok on a boat, it just takes time to catchup after moving. I dont really fish in one spot... except for bank fishing. It still seems useful for around the yard and in the woods.

You don't have those?
I have one, when the blackflies get real bad I'll put it on but thats it.
Ignore them that works:)

I mostly avoid showering...for some reason, bugs don't seem to care for me-they never have...I can count on one hand the number of bad instances I've had with mosquitos, ticks, chiggers, etc. Maybe I spend enough time outdoors that the bugs are used to my scent?

Haven't tried the thermacell on the water yet, but I can attest that it works in the hunting woods and camp site.

How long do the refills last for a thermocell? They aren't cheap

They'll last about 4 hours for the scent mat, and 12 for the cylinder. One cylinder and 3 mat to a refill pak.

A thermacell is worth it's weight in gold unless you are constantly moving or the wind is blowing.

I have used mine on the boat and while it is better than nothing, it doesn't work anywhere nearly as well as it does when you are completely sationary.
