Plant Operator Technical Specialist - CAU

Description:

Strong focus on operating, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing plant equipment on all systems. Individuals are expected to demonstrate technical expertise in one craft area (Electrical, Mechanical, and Central Utility Plant Operations) and be multi-skilled in others in order to successfully complete daily/weekly work assignments. The individual in this role must be available for Call-in work and perform other duties as required

Oversee and monitor the plant operation and make adjustments on boilers, heat exchanger, HVAC, electrical, chillers, cooling towers, emergency backup systems and hot water systems; monitors operation, adjusts, and maintains heat generating equipment; boilers, pumps, valves, piping and filters; other mechanical and electrical equipment; record readings and make adjustments where necessary to assure proper operation of equipment. Requires the ability to analyze the operation of various systems, determine the cause of any problems/malfunctions and take corrective action as required.

Performs preventive maintenance HVAC equipment which includes but not limited to: assembling all tools, supplies and instruments necessary to complete the job, performing work with a minimum amount disruption, conducting immediate clean up of work area, completing assigned tasks, reporting any equipment problems, impending supply or material shortages to the Plant Manager.

Repairs; plumbing/piping/tubing; wire single and three phase motors (under the direction of the Plant Manager); install and rebuild pumps and motors; maintain air compressors; heat exchangers; replace bearings in all types of motors; replace seals on pumps; install and repair piping, valves, filters, hot water systems and associated controls; assist with major repairs and maintenance of building and equipment. Installs, repairs, and maintains electrical controls, switching and motor controls. Performs water testing and maintains within specification.

Maintain tools and orders supplies as required for installation and repairs.

Complies with departmental policy for the safe storage, usage and disposal of hazardous materials. Maintains a clean and safe work space. Perform other duties as assigned and needed.

Job Requirements High school diploma or state equivalent required, minimum two years of related trade education or two years of college.

Possess Stationary or Boiler operator’s license, or obtain within one year of employment.

Possess a Universal CFC recovery certification, or obtain within one year of employment.

Experience - Minimum five years of technical experience working with mechanical, heating and/or electrical systems.

Understanding of and experience with working in compliance of standard operating procedures.

Special knowledge and skills - Skilled in use of tools and machinery. Knowledge of OSHA standards, and State, County and Federal Codes.

Personal characteristics - Team player, hard worker, good interpersonal skills, ability to communicate well in both oral and written reports.

Must have familiarity with a Computerized Maintenance Management System and Building Automation System (BMS),

Must have computer skills and be familiar with Microsoft Office products.

Must be able to work 12 hour rotating shift, nights, weekends and Holidays as needed.
