The Meaning of Memorial Day

I remember when I was a child, in our little town we lived, every Memorial Day they had a celebration (Mostly a small carnival a week or so before school let out) with a parade and speeches followed by a 21 gun salute. I can so remember my father standing at attention saluting the flag when they fired the shots. I never really understood this as he never talked about the war a whole lot. Almost never. As I grew older, I realized it must have been for his "buddies" that never made it home.

Thank you all to who are serving and to whom have served. You are not forgotten.
