My analog phones were krapping out so went to Fry's to check out some new phones. There isn't much of a selection of analog phones anymore, so bit the bullet and bought a new set of wireless phones, one set for me and one for my son as his phone is dying too. How did I ever live without these things?

I was on a role so went back to Fry's today and bought a new LED (not LCD) flat panel to attach to my laptop. Wow, what a difference! The picture is so much sharper and brighter. I also bought a new small usb mini keyboard which is so much better than the laptop's. I felt so good today that I also bought a new MANAGER'S desk chair, padded and really comfortable. Why not, I'm the boss of my home (only me here now).

Depending on what telephone system you have...I'd keep one analog plug-in phone around.

We had a power outage...for five days.... at the summer place this last year. Of our neighbors, we were in the small group that had some phone service. Everyone who had ONLY digital phones...had no phone service at all.

Our one, old fashioned.. stupid.. phone was still connected and worked just fine. It did not need 110 volt service to function.

regards, Rich

The LED monitor is an LCD, the LED part only refers to how it is backlit/uses leds to light it up rather than a CCFL or cold cathode fluorescent lamp, not a big deal I know, But it irks me when companies tell people they are not the same as LCD. :D

What's an analog phone? Welcome to the future Nomo. I can remember our old crappy phone that was hooked up in the kitchen, the only time it got use was during power outages. Those monitors are awesome, and you can find great deals on them if you look around. If I had a desktop I would definitely get one. We sucked it up and got a LED TV last black friday and it's probably the best investment we've made. Give it another year or so and they'll be cheap enough to buy one for every room. :D

I still have one analog phone in the kitchen which I hardly use. Having worked for the telephone company for 35 years, I've seen what power outages can do when it lasts for an extended period of time.

Talking about TV's being cheaper, my son saw an ad from a local TV store which has been around for decades and they are having a two for one sale. He's going to check it out today so I may be inheriting his "old" HDTV.

During the ice storm of '09, we were w/o power for 7 days, cell phones didn't work, but the phone in the hallway still worked.........................just couldn't get hold of anyone locally as they all had their land lines removed and relied on cells. . We've thought about getting rid of it, but am now gonna keep it.
