I have been fishing for a long time, but some terminology does not sink in when I read about it or someone talks about it. I am sure I am not the only one who keeps on hearing a description and does not really understand it.

So with that in mind I want to know the meaning of these terms?

Shallow point
flat point
laydowns
stickups
channel bank
standing timber
Hump
riprap bank
flooded timber

Maybe we can put a sticky thread of definitions for newbie fisherman or others in some section?

Feel free to add your own words that you always wanted to know what it meant and were afraid to ask LOL. No shame here guys!

I don't know if I'm right but as I understand them:

Shallow point
Point of underwater land sticking out from shore, like a submerged penisula

flat point
no clue

laydowns
Dead trees that have fallen in and are jammed up to the bank(also deadfall)

stickup
No clue

channel bank
Bank on the channelside(deep side)

standing timber
no clue but I'm assuming living trees in water like Cypress

Hump
Underwater shallower area with deeper areas on either side

riprap bank
Bank with man-made structure securing it, typically large rocks bundled together to prevent erroding

flooded timber
Low areas with trees that get flooded in high water times

Shallow point the lack of meaning in most of my posts

flat point Replies to my shallow point posts by Redbug and Flounder

laydowns What I usually do after a flat point reply

stickups A more advanced way to hijack a thred - like I am doing now

channel bank How some of my cast to a channel area start - by 1st hitting the bank

standing timber The results of too much internet porn

Hump I am not gonna go there

riprap bank Similar to Channel Bank casting only you start on the rocks

flooded timber Relieving the results of too much internet porn

Hope this helps

Lay downs are fallen trees on the banks of the water also knows as blowdowns
stickup are lay downs or blowdowns that are under water and stick up above the surface
Standing timber is trees that when the lake was formed were left standing and have died this happened alot when the lake filled up from heavy rains during the building stage they didnt get all the trees cleared.

flooded timber is when the water rises and goes over the banks
