my guess is more people fishing.
with the economy and stress that comes with it people are seeking an relaxing, tranquil and relatively cheap hobby.

Relatively cheap hobby? I did not want to post this but I was forced to. Someone really close to me has to disagree with the cheap hobby comment. Again I apologize for the post but like I said I had no other option it was either this or something much much worse.

Please forgive me [-o<

I've heard that the number of people buying hunting/fishing licenses are on the decline and that the average age of the sportsman is getting older. Has a lot to do with more and more people living in urban centers (now 80% in the US).

My guess would be climate change. The south traditionally produces the larger freshwater species (bass, crappie, etc...). However as the growing season (agriculture) becomes longer at higher latitudes, it provides more time for fish to be active and feeding.

This has got me looking at my state records, I think it'd be fun to pick one and spend the summer going after it. Maybe there could be some kind of contest for the first tinboater to break a state record?
