Here is a 'do-it-yourself' way to estimate the weight of your boat using a lever and home scale. Interesting idea, I'd like to see how close it really is.

Yes it's accurate. If you weighing some light like a small boat you can use a 3' beam.

Heres another way:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How to weigh a boat.....

1. First put the scale under the tongue with the boat pulled all the way up on the trailer. For this example, we will use a scale reading of 220lbs so W1=220

2. Scoot the boat back on the trailer EXACTLY 12" so 12=X

3. Re-weigh the tongue. For this example, it was 100lbs so W2=100

4. Measure the distance in inches from the axle to the tip of the tongue. In this example, it was 180". so 180=C

5. Plug all 4 of your numbers into the equation. C(W1-W2)/X

In this example, it will look like this... 180(220-100)/12

6. Do the equation
a. first you subtract 100 from 220 which = 120
b. then you multiply 120 by 180 which= 21600
c. finally you divide 21600 by 12 which = 1800

So this boat weighs 1800lbs.
