Outstanding use for 6 gallon tank

Nothing a little bondo and some sheet metal / rivets would not fix up. Get some baling twine and tie that tank to the roof where it should be. Although it did look like he had adequate ventilation in the cab of that car.

I used to have a pinto about 28 years ago, gave my buddy a ride home in winter, he gets out on his snow covered street and asks me why my rear tires are turning even though I have the brakes on and am not moving. Turned out previous owner disconnected the rear brakes. What a death trap, can't remember what I did with that car, hopefully junked.

Okay, that's hysterical!

Wow... What a piece of junk. See how close those power wires are to the gas lines.. yikes.

I've used a regular gas can for a marine tank on a 10' once.. It worked.

Now that was mighty ingenious. I like the way he mounted the fuel pump on the door. And why go to all the trouble of routing the fuel line through the engine compartment. As anyone can see, the fuel tank cannot be mounted in the original position.

I think he could fight the ticket for an unsafe vehicle.

The cop is not an engineer and he ahs no professional training to determine what is safe or not. As for the wires, you have them IN your gas tank!

"Unsafe Pinto" is a bit redundant, isn't it? If I remember correctly, Pintos used to catch fire because of the gas tanks, so the owner may have actually improved the safety of the vehicle by rigging it up that way! I'm a fan of the creativity, but I don't want to be on the same road with that thing.

Yes, pinto's got there 15 minutes of national fame when several of them had their gas tanks explode when they were in accidents where the pinto got rear ended. So maybe what he did was his attempt at making the car safer to drive. Either way, I don't think the officer should be the one making the decision whether it's safe or not in this case.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH THAT! :LOL2:
Owned a 1942 JEEP, with the gas tank under the drivers seat.
On this model-MB, you had to flip the top of the seat up, remove the gas cap, and reach inside the vehicle to fill it.
Often wondered what would happen if someone ran into the side of it. glad I never found out!
I think you sat on top of the tank in all the old jeeps, only difference being they went to a outside fill at some point.
Don't remember any lawsuits on them, and don't forget, this same setup was used during WW2! #-o

It's not a Pinto but I've got an 89 Ford Escort Motorized Scaffold for sale if anyone can use it. Has a hitch I used to pull my boat.

Honestly i think he did make it safer, granted it is a bit rigged but cmon.. as stated "This is America".

Not like it was the Corvair or anything..

The messed up thing is if this was Russia that would be not only acceptable but copied and admired by others.

We Americans do some pretty fair riggin' ourselves and we're quite innovative. But, even in America, you don't have the right to endanger others in your pursuit of happiness. They outlawed saddlebag gas tanks, tanks behind the seats and mandate protection and strengthening for the rear mounted tanks today for a reason.

That's just plain dangerous. #-o
