i have three medium rods, two of them have a lure rating up to 3/4 oz. one of them reaches its limit at 3/8 0z. all im doing is casting 3/4 oz spoons and some pike harassers, maybe some rappallas,, nothing over 1 oz. is that a big deal? please let me know from your experience.
 
The rod with the 3/8oz limit may very well be too light for the heavier baits. I would think that if you don't throw your baits with a lot of torque, you may be OK. If you try to over cast the abilities of the rod, you stand a good chance of snapping them in two. If you need to make longer casts, go to a medium heavy rod rated for the larger baits.
