The environmental impact is looking worse everyday, it's sad it happened to such a pristine river. Many more of these detention ponds are capable of this kind of failure/spill.

Gotta luv corporate greed...that should have been secured a long time ago but i'm sure profitability was the primary decision making factor up until now...

This is very sad, things like this can take decades for full recovery. I hope that they're able to get everything properly managed and on the road to recovery right away.

It's a start........sure somebodies gonna pay for the damages but cleaning up all the sites will be impossible................

The Dan river is my hometown river. This was heartbreaking. If you look at my gif in my signature, most of the videos are from the Dan.

If you or I were to illegally dump toxic waste into a public water way, we would be in jail. Duke Energy executives just have to apologize and pay a little fine. Sickening.

Tragic.

The largest water polluter in the entire US is our local Mosaic phosphate. Google earth Polk co., Fl. and look at the moonscape of acid ponds they have left to leach into the aquifer. A huge multinational company they will fold their tent in the middle of the night and disappear back overseas leaving the taxpayers with the huge cost of cleanup.

Adding Insult to injury? They run commercials nonstop on how they are great "Stewards of the Land". What a sad joke.

It burns my ***.
