Anyone have any experience with this stuff? I see it advertised in my American Hunter Magazine and have always been intrigued by the idea of less watering and maintenance and so on. I am thinking of buying 500 plugs and trying it in one area on my lawn.

Worth it or waste of time and money?

My buddy has it in his front yard and its some bad *** grass, cant kill the stuff and it just keeps spreading, really looks nice.

Many years ago I had a neighbor that planted some. I moved before I saw the final/long term results but if I remember correctly, he was having problems with it in shady areas. Other than that it seemed to do fairly well but it sure was slow to see any progress on the spreading.

Doesn't it turn white or yellow in the winter? I have patches that have slowly spread into the normal grass and it looks terrible mixed in. And it's tough to kill and get rid of so I would think hard before committing to it.

My brother had patches of it in his lawn. We took a shovel and dug it up and bought sod to fill in the lawn.

Trying to convert my lawn to it. I bought some sod locally last year and planted it in various spots. It grew like a champ in the sun and shade. Will be going full blown this year.

Jim,

I purchased 200 or 300 hundred plugs back in the mid 80"s. I was expecting it to be delivered on a tractor trailer and it arrived by UPS, with plugger. Plugged it in the front yard. The next year, I purchased a pallet for the back yard. Know what? Some zoysia spreads and some does not. The pallet did not. Left 3 years later and the ex has a beautiful front yard.

Colbyt » 02 Apr 2014 09:51 am[/url]"]Nice looking in the really warm weather. I don't care for the 6 months of brown and that may be longer in MA.

Now I know why my neighbors grass turns brown…….Thanks I learned something new.

The color change in the winter is one deal breaker. From ......."Our cool season grasses look good for about 10 months of the year. Zoysia really only looks good from mid May through October. Establishing Zoysia is no easy task because you can’t just spread seed like you do with cool season grasses. You have to insert plugs and you first must get rid of all the existing grass and weeds before you plant the plugs."

You have kids and I'm pretty sure the stuff is a rather coarse grass that doesn't lend itself to bare feet and laying on the lawn. From https://www.walterreeves.com/lawn-care/zoysia-general-notes/]here... "The stiff blades of zoysiagrass make it feel spongy, like walking on padded carpet. Bermudagrass feels harder to your feet but is still the best choice for recreational turf."

I'm in Oklahoma where it gets blazing hot and droughts so this type of grass along with Bermuda are hardy down here.

One of the local, private golf courses has a well established stand on it in 'off fairway' positions. In the early fall it is really weird to see when the fairway and greens are still a lush green.

Hey it is early spring; I may go take a pic for you cause I bet it is still brown.

It's still brown in my yard. If you are way up north I wouldn't use it.

I have a love-hate relationship with it. I love how soft it feels on my feet, but mowing it sucks because it's so freakin' thick!
As the saying goes, I wish my grass was emo so it would cut itself.

Sold! Throw that idea out the window. :LOL2:

Plus, the whole neighborhoods grass is green except my next door neighbor. His is still brown and it is invading my grass year after year….I learned something. I always thought "poor guy" his grass sucks. I thought it was some weird chemicals in the ground. :LOL2:
