I have a Merc 5 hp 4strok on a 13' FG hull that weighs ~110lbs, plus a TM and a size 27 battery, top speed is 10.3mph, I weigh 205, light gear load.

I have a 4hp Tohatsu 4stroke on a 14ft v hull. The hull empty weighs 300lbs + a group 24 & 27 batteries, gear, & me ( 250+ ). The motor will almost plane the boat off. I haven't done a gps speed test yet but I'm guessing about 10-12 mph. But if your not in a hurry to get any where you'll be just fine. Cant really beat the fuel economy either. I can fish all day on 1/3 of a gallon of gas!

Oh yea, the mpg is great on the small 4-5hp 4strokes, a gallon of gas will last a long long time, but you're not getting anyway very fast either. :LOL2: If you can swing a 8hp or 9.9 4s, would probably get decent performance/speed out of it. Most 8/9.9 4strokes weigh the same tho.
