I am in the middle of stripping and cleaning a 1955 Alumacraft model F. While running the wire brush I was thinking of things I would like to do to the boat and how to do them. One thing I would like to stiffen the transom. I have the setup to cast braces out of aluminum but was wondering if anyone has done this before? And if so what advice as far as pattern shape, draft, thickness, or any special requirements in gating?

Thanks
Bryan

Ha; I worked in several foundries and know what you're talking about. Can't help you though. Unless you want it "restored", I would just look at some other boats to see how the transoms are braced, find a setup you like, and then fabricate some similar braces.
