Install Google Earth Pro (Free) and you can measure line of site or a path. You can also save the measurements for future reference. I use this feature just about every week to measure fishing and hunting trips. There is also a polygon measurement that will let you measure area like acres or sq ft.

Lots of ways to skin that cat!
Since most people, including me, have Google Maps on their android phones, I thought this might be of help. I also have used both Google Earth and I own the non-free $10.00 Navionics app. I didn't know that the free version of Navionics also allowed this feature.
I can skin even more cats now!

I didn't download anything. Just bookmarked their web app link. In fact, I didn't think about it being used on a smart phone. I honestly don't know if it would work.
I do use Navionics on my fish finder. Like it a lot.
