Is it the iPhone? On the keyboard look for an up/down arrow and that should switch you between the upper case/lower case letters. There is also a "key" that shows numbers/puncuation marks, which will provide the numbers and punuation needed. We upgraded my wife's 3 yr old cell phone to an iPhone 3G yesterday (late surprise Christmas gift), so I spent some time messing with it.
