Hello all Stumbled across this very cool forum for Tin boats by accident while looking for Jon boat info. I today bought a new 2008 Grizzly 1448 AWL and can't wait to start setting it up, I'm sure I will find lots of info on that here. But first I have to set up a trailer so I can get it home, I know that they offer a matching Trailstar trail but being a bit of a cheap you know what I thought I might find a used boat trailer and mod it to haul the Jon on. What do you guys think and what mods are typically needed to haul a jon on a regular type boat trailer?

Welcome aboard! Go into your user profile and post your location.. we can help you out a little more when we know where you're located.

As far as mods for a trailer for a jon boat... not really sure what you're looking for. Is that grizzly a flat bottom, semi-vee or what?

If it's a flat bottom, you'll want to have the bunks that run the length of the flat part of your boat - best if they are laying flat - it gives your boat the most area to lay on. You'll also want a bow stop, with a winch on it so that you can hook up your strap and bring it in. On the rear sides of the trailer, there should be something that you can attach a ratchet strap to so that you can run it across the stern. OR you can use transom straps if the transom of the boat is inline with with the rear of the trailer or no overhang.

Same info above really applies to most boats... I'm sure other's will chime in though

I dunno if you guys can get these in Canada, but this is and idea if you're not traveling very far with your boat. You could upgrade the wheels to 12 inch for better ride.

This is the cheapest place I've found to buy wheels/tires... I replaced my 8" set with another 8" set for $75 including shipping.

hi Guys some great advise but here is what's happened today. I called the dealership that I bought the boat from. I was chatting with the sales guy who is an avid fisherman and seems like an all round good guy, after a bit of discussion about picking the boat up he offered me the matching colored trailer for $835 Can. so I went for it, I was already weak. The main difference on this trailer compared to a regular boat trailer from what I know now is that the frame work allows for longer bunks and the winch post has a wider rest for the bow to sit against. Anyway I pick it up on Feb 18th, thanks again for the help.

I agree with Russo1o.That's a good price, even in CAN dollars. The boat and trailer will probably hold value better and be easier to sell,if the need or want to arises.

Congrats Rumbles, Good Luck with it, how bout a picture when you pick her up? =D>
