The RI Department of Environmental Management, RI Fish and Wildlife and RI.gov are proud to offer you an online service to purchase freshwater fishing and saltwater tourist 14-day shellfishing licenses.

Before you start
Licenses and Permits purchased online are not subject to exchange or return. Licenses are not mailed. You are responsible for printing your license(s). This service accepts MasterCard, Discover and VISA only. Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view and print your license(s).

Annual license terms run from March 1 through the last day of February in the current licensing year. You will be prompted to select a start date for any short term licenses.
This service will provide you with a printable PDF of your license. Click here to view and test print a sample PDF.
All active military personnel are entitled to purchase a RI Resident Fishing Licenses even if you do not live in Rhode Island. Those licenses held by active military personnel are valid until 6 months after their official discharge.
Note: Hunting licenses are currently NOT available online. The DEM Web site has this list of vendors authorized to sell fishing and hunting licenses as well as stamps, tags and other permits.
Per RI GL 20-3-7, shellfish licenses are not valid for harvesting of shellfish on Block Island. Please contact the Block Island Shellfish Commission at (401) 466-3213 for applicable licenses.

Resident Freshwater Fishing: $18.00
1 year, expiring February 28, 2009
Non-Resident Freshwater Fishing: $35.00
1 year, expiring February 28, 2009
Tourist Freshwater Fishing (3 days): $16.00
3-day license
Non-Resident Saltwater Shellfish (14 days): $11.00
14-day license (Not valid for Block Island)
Trout Stamp: $5.50
Added to the license you select
Information you will need:
Your driver's license of official state identification card
Your date of birth
The last 4 digits of your social security number (Why?)
Your height, weight, hair and eye color
For resident licenses you will need to prove residency with your RI drivers license or RI ID number or an active military identification number.
2009 licenses are not available until March 1.
Annual licenses purchased today are 2008 licenses expiring on February 28, 2009 (in 18 days).
