How about this bad boy?

You could put a cabin on this bad boy.Heat,AC,potty,tv,stereo, camp stove, all the modern technologies.Wouldn't have to leave the water for days. :roflmao:

Their adverstisement actually compared it the WWII Higgins boat ("Mike" Boat) stating theirs is far superior in design as I recall reading it briefly. I don't think the one in the ad would have made it to the beach under the conditions the Mike boats motored through.

From the ad:
...these boats are similar in look and design as the Marine corp WWII Higgins boat beach landing craft. However, these are far superior with the patent pending steel tubular construction.

I've worked on some Mike boats (a long time ago), and the ones I dealt with had voids (double bulkheads) port and stbd.

Still a cool post! 8)

That would make a great houseboat!!

Ben, you would love one of the boats we build at work. I have to be careful on posting info. https://navysite.de/ships/lcac.htm

Love the hovercraft.Their not allowed on the waterways around here or I'd build one of the UH hovercraft.I also like the higgins landing craft. https://www.ussrankin.org/id38.htm
Here's a company that makes aluminum landing craft and jon boats. https://www.lifetymeboats.com/index.html

Yes, it has gas turbines for propulsion which push it at 60 knots and burn through its 5800 gallons of fuel oil in about 6.5 hours resulting in a range of about 380 nautical miles. If you run on the diesel engines you get 9 knots with a range of 1500 nautical miles or nearly 7 days of cruising.

That's just insanely high fuel consumption for a turbine boat, and crazy slow for diesels. The diesels can barely push it at displacement speeds.

I spent two years on a floating drydock (ARDM-2) docking subs. The dock was anchored (14 of 'em) 800 yds off-shore in the river, so we rode a boat to work and back to the pier. The boat was a converted "Mike" 4 boat which had the bow ramp welded closed and a cover built over the well deck to keep the weather off of us. It was a blast riding that thing, especially before they put radar on it. We were lost a few times out in the river in the fog trying to find the ship. We even found a huge Dredge one morning in the fog. Makes a real loud noise when you run into it, lol.

Every once in awhile I'll see a 1000 acre island for sale around Memphis in the middle of the Mississippi River and I've often thought how cool it would be to buy one but then I wondered how I'd get all the supplies out to it. The mini barge would be cool but then so would THIS:

Either of those would be perfect for the job and very cool to boot!

That would be awesome, it even has a winch to help land the big ones... LOL
